Strauss, Bail and Spencer Re-sign

I have never ever seen anything to suggest Strauss is anything more than an honest battler. Has anyone else seen "Elite" kicking skills coz I havent!

Round 16 v Fremantle subbed on for jamar early on in the second quarter ..... First game back in the ones. Streams out of defense and kicks a bullet like 55 meter kick from the 50 arc to the other 50 arc and put it lace out on Rivers chest if I remember correctly.

It was that kick that reminded my how silky he can be. The kid just needs some consistencey in play. Shame he broke his leg when he did as this was already beginning to happen.

Indifferent re: Spencer. But good on him. No one would have picked that at the start of this year.

Surprised re: Strauss. But again, good for him. I don't necessarily think he'll end up a part of our best 22, or our next premiership, but maybe with the injury behind him he'll be OK.

Strauss would want to be the best kick of all time, given his kicking tallies in games this year were:

7,1,2,6,6,3,5

All good and well if you have good skills on the training track and scout videos, but the guy just doesn't

get enough of the footy. So far i have seen nothing to suggest he'd be in our best 22 next year.

I clearly remember the first time I saw Strauss in action, a pre-season game at Princess Park (or is it Visy oval now?). I went with a mate who's a mad footy fan and watches everything he can get his hands on. He wanted to know who Strauss was, said he was one of the best kicks he'd seen.

But I see desire and effort down at the local park on a Saturday arvo. Some of those players have more natural skill than Spencer.

I think after a decent trade/free agency period, this is a really poor decision. Why not just take the best delisted ruckman in the PSD?

Are any of those lads down the local park 203cm and 100kgs?

This is good news.

Strauss will be a gun when fit and healthy. He is a very good kick - perhaps the word "elite" might be strectching it a bit but I have seen him hit players up at Casey in a way that reminds of Trav J at his best. Let's see if he do it in the big time!

Bail has all the grunt and aggression that Neeld and Craig like and I for one am stoked he is still on the list. Will find himself quickly outside the starting 22 if he does not fix his kicking this preseason.

We need Spencer. He looks so unco but Barry Round from the Swannies, Manson from Collingwood, even big Strawbs O'Dwyer for the Dees in the late 80's were all horrible early on.

None of these 3 players have shown much more than sub standard performances.

Strauss has been out of action for 12 months and is a 50/50 chance of ever finding form again.

Bail is a major liability as his descison making is poor and skills average.

Spencer has only played a handful of games and is yet to hold down his spot. His skills are below average and you wouldn't rely on him with the ball.

Why we got rid of Martin and kept spencer/gawn is beyond me.

Tick tick tick tock neeld. Your descisons will be heavily scrutinized in 2013.

Lets hope for everyone sake that they come off.

But I guess the difference is that they were not recruited and scouted by an AFL team. If they were any good they would be on an AFL List. Spencer has played a handful of games the time he has not been in the side he has trained hard bulked up and continued to work on the track. This is the type of desire and attitude (and the discipline) that we don't see that warrants his signature on another 2 year contract.

Gee some of the posts on this topic are hilarious, some want to try facing the green bit when they are at games

Strauss was an elite kick as a junior (watched him a lot), shown it a couple of times in games, but broke his leg, if anybody has done this, the real test is to get airborne again and land and turn......he gradually worked his way back into it last season....full pre season and watch out..

Spencer, an absolute monster who will only get better and better which he has done, just turned 23 so is not near his prime as a ruckman, I for one have no issues with the effort he puts in, the kicking will improve.....he will keep Jamar honest

Bail can run and run and run, again came from way back, was playing in Qld local comp when we got him, skills will improve with time, perfect link man up and down a wing

After reading this thread i went on you tube to look for any vision of Strauss and came across a highlight package from 2008 U18 Champs.... was funny to hear so many dee or former dee players running around in that particular game... Strauss, Blease, Watts, Gawn, Gysberts, $cully.
