Big mistake to trade Martin as he can play and doesn't tap the ball to his toes. The Russian will struggle now that Maloney is not at his feet to pick up his taps. Decision is between Gawn and Spencer as the two >200cm rucks that aren't that agile. I would love to see Fitzpatrick find a position. The need is to develop talls in key posts and then have lots of runners and blokes who will get the ball to be competitive

I think you need to go back to tapes of the 98 finals to see White at his best. He monstered Adelaide and St Kilda. Then proceed to 2000, where he was at the centre of the run to the GF. Then onto his AA year in 2004, followed by strong years in 2005 and 2006.

He was one of the best rucks I've seen. He was incredibly durable, missing very few games and playing a large chunk of minutes in every game.

He played through a chronic shin problem that threatened his career, and indeed the future of his leg.

As has been said before, he was killed by the change in the ruck rules, which stopped him from getting the running leap that was his trademark. His marking prowess was a joy to watch and he was an under rated forward.

White was Danihers love child played as a favourite son way too long to the detriment of the team and its future but hey you know everything and thats ok we all have a view sometimes differnt

From my memory and observance at the time White was also killed by the structures that were in place as he worked very hard down the centre of the ground often providing an ignored option as the team attacked from the flanks and pockets.

I dont think he owed the club anything when he left as others have indicated he did have a pretty good record,

I also think the Jolly White combination was not used all that well and see the same with Martin and Jamar

They are different types of players and should be used only as the opposition and strategy dictates. More options for play mean you may need a freewheeling run all day ruck man to create a tall option and gather possession around the ground and another day you want a more static congestion tap option

Maybe you need both or maybe you need one or the other

Surely its good to have some variety in the list.

I want to be able to stop burying my head in my hands as often as I did this year. To this end, I do not want to see Sellar in the forward line or ruck again; I can, just barely, tolerate him in the backline.

Gawn is, IMO, the best ruck option going forward. I would have a Jamar & Gawn ruck combination with Fitzpatrick/Martin playing in the forward line providing backup. Overall, I think that we have the ruck situation pretty much covered.

My biggest concern about our ruck stocks is Spencer.

I can't watch him play especially when he has the ball in his hands. He can't kick and looks so unsure. Although, his ruck work is pretty solid.
