With Cloke looking to re-sign at the pies, it bodes well for our chances to get Wellingham for Martin, which is a bloody good result for us.

Wellingham for Martin?

Steal of the century! (If it happens)

No ... not a steal - a good deal for both parties.

I wouldn't trade Martin for less than a Wellingham

Martin is one of our best players on offer this trade season. He is a player who can excel in the right environment which currently is not MFC.

A trade for a mid would be a good result for all

I still havent really figured out the complete role the pies would assign Martin, this in my mind goes to his value which results in what we get back.

Suppose like much,watch this space.

Try the "Brown role" - they are in the premiership window - normally drives the price up.

In the short term trading a player like Martin for Wellingham would work in the favour of Melbourne.

But in the long term, Collingwood will definitely benefit more landing Martin. Just like Sydney did with Jolly.

Martin plays his best footy as first ruck. He is wasted as second ruck because he is a poor forward. I would like to trade one of Jamar or Martin. Jamar has bought into Neelds gameplan and Neeld has commited to him.

Whilst I don't disagree that this is probably his best position, that doesn't equate to being the MFCs best option AS first ruck. Currently injury free Jamar is the best option we have here, but fully fit, is Gawn or even Spencil better as a center bounce ruckman.

Stef Martin to me is only marginally more effective than Jason Blake was a few years ago. Undersized... there is some mobility, but our mids have to shark from the opposition ruck as much as getting taps from ours.

I think the pies may want to go bigger in the forwardline, with cloke a leadup or deep they may want someone taller playing deep. maybe Jolly.

Maybe they can see Martin as potential 1st ruck, (home & away season) with Jolly playing deep & taking short stints rucking, for bulk of season. Come the finals this may change a bit?

This may elongate Jollies career, rotating with Martin.

Seems like a Martin for Wellingham trade might be a longer shot than originally thought. Apparently Wellingham is on his way out West for talks with clubs at the moment.....that's what the Hun is reporting anyway.

OMG What a surprise is that - who would have thought? B)

What?

No, he is out west because he is on leave and that's where he is from, not to mention where his agent is based.

So will you still trust Neeldy if we trade Stef? Or we find out what's wrong with you?

Yes, i'll trust his judgement if he gets traded..

Thats what i said.. i even underlined it and its still not clear for you..

I trust that Neelds methods will drag us up the ladder - and keep us there..

Not necessarily.

And the Pies wouldn't be the only club interested.

Carlton amongst others were after a big man also.

Next 2 weeks will be interesting.

Lynch also isn't much of a ruckman, which they still need. Decent backup at least.

Richo believes he's going to Collingwood, but there was no official declaration, or announcement. And he acknowledged he'd be in trouble if he'd got it wrong.

Then you come on and say, "Channel 7 reported that Collingwood have signed Quentin Lynch so Martin not going to pies."

It never ceases to amaze me how some people interpret the English language. At least you could have provided some context to your statement.

I really hope Jamar is injury free next year but given his year this year I'm not holding my breath. If we lose Martin we must be confident either Gawn or Spencer can stand up, or we must have a replacement we are considering in the draft

So no one knows if he is going .

I conclude he will stay.

Martin too Coll for Dawes

Martin too StK for Ray & 2nd rounder

Martin too Hawtorn for Savage. I would like this one!

Martin too Hawthorn for Young.

Martin too Bulldogs for 2nd rounder. Or this one!

The problem with free agency compensation not being distributed until October 19 is that it's going to drag out most trades until the final week. If Viney slips to the second round, our second rounder is off the trade table, but with Moloney and Rivers compo, we could end up with a useful second round trading chip. So while if we are going to trade Martin it'd be nice to know what art of return we could get, we don't exactly know what our assets are yet, and I'm preparing to have to wait 2-3 weeks to see honour trades unfold.

I think we should go hard for Clinton young using Stefan Martin and a pick.

Theres a certain reality about that. Youd almost think it worth the while to end the FA comonent a week earlier than end of trade "week" It started a week earlier, it ought to finish similar. This in order to allow all the other dominos to fall in a reasonable time.

In a way the AFL has shot itself in the foot. It elongated ttrade week to minimise the panic and allow better deals to occur in a more measured way but the FA effect causes the same at the end. I suspect it will change for 2013.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
