FAREWELL STEFAN MARTIN - SEPTEMBER 2012

Mate your out of your depth on this one..

Time to admit you have flopped on this one.

It's 'you're' DD36, not your.

And, you lambaste JW for his inconsistency, yet this project of yours plays several good games over five or six years.

Short memory, my friend.

Clearly you haven't been watching too much football this year (or last) if you think Martin had only played several good games. He's now one of the elite rucks in the comp and might well be AA. We were stupid for releasing him and keeping Jamar.

Most of us knew he had talent and we also knew he could really only play as the number 1 ruck. We also thought he was a sook.

But I had no idea he could elevate his game to the level he has and perform so consistently.

Incredible athlete and very valuable footballer.

True, but he is still only the second most famous "Stefan" on the Gold Coast.

Not a lot, Moon....watching my own team creates enough angst around my household..

Anyhoo, Max Gawn is our number one ruck now.

At the time when the club needed players to stick fat and take on a leadership role, Stef chose a different path.

We all move on.

I presume you are referring to a very well known hairdresser in those parts and one who has coiffed me on occasion.

How a vulgar fellow like yourself has knowledge of him does rather confound me.

I don't think it was necessarily Stephan who chose the path; rather it was chosen for him.

If that's what happened, it happened.

I'm not privvy to boardroom deals.

But, something in his behaviour, countenance and conduct made the decision easy.

I went to schoolies for about 20 years straight until the courts banned me from attending.

Still think it was an unjust decision but I got to see the great Stefan everywhere in my time up north every December.

This is too good.

Was very angry when we traded Stef, was always a big fan and thought it would come back to bite us...

With that said, i was probably angrier that we traded Gysberts... we cleared out a lot of players that post season, one was guaranteed to come good somewhere else.

Wasn't that upset when we got rid of him. I think the change of scenery really helped him, as well as a shot as no.1 ruck (he was usually forward/2nd ruck for us). 25+ possessions regularly for a ruckman is outstanding, like Stynes in his heyday

I heard time and time again that Stefan's problem wasn't Stefan but somebody close to him. Change of scenery was best for all particularly Stefan on and off the field.

Likewise heard. That somebody is no longer at the club, ironically.

I'd long thought that, if left there, he could become a really decent CHB

Not sure about the sook thing either. His best season for us followed a massive self-imposed pre-season. The old 10 mile run on Xmas day type and it paid dividends

Next season it all went titz up and I'm not convinced he was mainly responsible

Really good player now. Plays like a giant ruck rover although a few of his taps in the last quarter were superb. He's skilled up in that area too

Ah well - I guess when you give that many players the lemonade & sars, odds are one will come back to bite you

He's no CHB, although he can pinch hit.

He's a first ruck. He's never had consistency anywhere else.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
