He's taller than Ben Rutten, Daren Glass, and Matthew Scarlett, but he's too short.

FMD.

Have you seen him play or do you just look up stats on the site? He does not play like a legitimate tall player. He is like a slightly taller Joel MacDonald.

FMD.......

I'm surprised you haven't at least watched the Scorpions on the rare occasions the ABC has deigned to show their match on a Saturday afternoon, Nasher. Wilkes beat him at Sandy, but he is a bona fide AFL player in my opinion.

Davis has impressed me. Keeps his eye on the ball in the packs.

Typical of the problems of not having a stand alone reserves team. What a pity he hasn't been tried forward.

I see more upside in Davis than Leigh Williams, though I think he's worth persevering with ,too.

I'd like to see him given more time.

He looks distracted like many young men, & I suspect he has his nose out of joint for some reason. But I saw big potential last year.

He needs to get his shoulder sorted, & really work on his kicking action (ball drop). And grow up a bit.

This is Troy Davis...what shoulder? distracted? nose out of joint?, this is his review from the weekend

"Troy Davis - Troy had his hands full with Ben McKinley (3 goals) - however, in typical Troy style, he stuck to the task all day, competed and also worked to provide some offensive run, taking five marks in the process"

I for one hope we keep him

I've seen him play and know that he's tall enough if he's good enough.

Unlike you.

Was unlucky not to get games at the back half of last year. Seemed to get close competition between him and McDonald for the spot.

I would keep him, how many players can we delist? If we delist him, along with the players already gone, and the players we will likely be delisting (Bate etc), we'll end up taking more players with pick 50+ anyway. Why throw away a few years of development.

Considering he has yet to debut after 2 seasons, he probably is not good enough.

He's the same height and almost the same weight as Bate who can't play tall at AFL level, however, Craig Bolton was 190cm and could do it. What you clearly struggle to comprehend is that just because you are the same height as someone doesn't automatically mean that you are capable of doing what they can do.

He may as well leave, it's unlikely he'll ever fit in our defence unless we picked him over McDonald

Our defensive 50 at the end of the year had Lynden Dunn and Joel Macdonald in it. There are spots ripe for the picking if he's good enough.

Agree , marginal call here. The club is best placed. Has shown some signs but it depends on how ruthless Neeld is.

I would also look at Kyle Hartigan in the VFL as a good tall (21yo) option.

See my previous post which is no 9 in this thread.

I've seen him in most of his games both last year (part of which was during a period of recovery from a thyroid problem) and this year.

He had a poor patch in the middle of the season and he needs to work on his delivery when under pressure but I think he has some good attributes and there's a lot more development in him.

I'd keep.

What's your take on the Lucas Cook decision, KC?

Posted

I've never seen him play but if he's on our list he's got little chance of making it if history is any guide.

For his own sake he should leave

You're stating the obvious. I argued with posters that said Darling was too short for the same reason. So spare me the footy lesson. Clearly I disagree with Davis' capacity to play tall.

But here is the crux of the matter. You said he was too short to be a key defender. You were called on it and now you're trying to make out that you meant his style of play. You can try and wriggle out of it, but it doesn't work on me.

If Davis doesn't make it it will have nothing to do with his height. As I said, he's tall enough if he's good enough.

Semantics. I don't care if it doesn't work on you. You're a crap poster. You, Olisik and all the flogs with 30 posts saying stupid things contribute nothing to this site.

Davis is not capable of playing on talls - this is my argument. Combine that with the fact that his kicking is below VAFA Div. 4 standard means he should be delisted. Anyone who can't defend a resting ruckman or rebound with serviceable kicking is a list-clogger.

Geelong are apparently open to the idea of Rivers replacing Scarlett.

...... As long as Scarlett doesnt decide to extend one more season and the massively dis interested Frawley is targeted to do the replacing, which would work better for the Cats and give Chip a chance to show how good he really is.

Thanks TD. I saw your post. But I didn't really feel that a quarter up forward in a thrashing was a real try-out. But it sounds like he went OK in that short trial. I would have thought it might have prompted A more thorough assessment. It would have been appropriate for Melbourne, but not Casey, perhaps.

I've seen him play once, and the signs he showed that day were encouraging but not outstanding.

Maybe with Cook going, the position of 'young developing KPP' might rest with Davis, and he might stay. But I similarly wouldn't be surprised if he was released, given he's had two years and hasn't really looking like cracking into the side.

Watch this space carefully in the future.

Hahaha, I would literally laugh myself all the way into a mental asylum and give the game up for good if we lost Frawley. Don't we have a gazillion dollar we can pack into a brown paper bag next year for him when he's out of contract?

FML, Melbourne supporters should be the poster children for Beyond Blue.

Posted

He's shown more than Cook, but he's still failed to get a start in two years at the club. His mad competitive streak may endear him to Neeld, but on his output alone you'd have to doubt that he's going to be kept.

Posted

I never saw Cook play, so i can't compare.

But i liked what Davis brought to the table, I'm surprised he didn't get more games to be honest.

He was big, reasonable quick and defensively good in the air.

I thought he tried hard also.

Id keep him
