HYPOTHETICAL:

Choice 1: Confront a huge problem with a high profile player in a successful club,

or

Choice 2: Drip feed the media fuel for a fire involving a struggling club to generate massive diversionary coverage.

Which is easier?

Which is right?

Am I paranoid?

Am I right?

Didn't seem to bother Vlad too much on holidays...

He trained impeccably in their last session before the game but came down with a bad flu overnight and was not right to play. Sorry guys but nothing sinister here. David Parkin on ABC radio is the source for the info.

A mate of mine who is mad hawthorn and always seems to know what is going on said 4 weeks ago it's strike 4 but he is Buddy and they wont let their poster child fall.

I did not believe him then..........

I sense another hypocritical 360 rant where he takes the moral high ground and slams any one of us for drawing to these conclusions.

Surely robbo's Herald sun could run a double page spread and use stats on Buddy's "Hamstring" injury and late withdrawls and then quote a anonymous source that says he has received his third strike. Robbo could then promote it on 360 as a major article backed up by rock solid evidence. Or do they just make up [censored] for articles on our club?

Yeah , like the rock solid evidence from anonymous source that got winked at from an unknown official.

That is interesting as the Rumor I think I remember from a year or more back, & had forgotten, I think was rumored strike 3 for someone? That fits.

I spose unless your caught passed out in your car by authorities, it doesn't see the sunshine on the print.

He's got man flu, my missus tells me. Pretty common at the moment. She know all about these things, thankfully. My best sauce.

And how does your missus know this? Did she diagnose him?

Yeah about 2-3 years ago, he thinks this one is strike 2 again as the strikes drop off after two years or so? Not sure on that tho

Interesting response from Hawthorn ... http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/hawks-slam-rumours-surrounding-lance-franklin/story-fnelctok-1226454256055

"Now we've heard all the conspiracy theories and rumours and I can tell you that they are absolute rubbish,'' (Hawthorn Football Manager) Mark Evans said.

"People need to be very careful about how you report that and how the commentary goes. You shouldn't go there.

"The sorts of things that we have heard is that it's an AFL or club imposed suspension, that he's re-done his hamstring, that he took two weeks off to go to the Olympics, just absolute rubbish.''

Could have - but didn't - specifically address the 3-strikes drugs rumour. Why not knock it directly on the head if it isn't true? Strange.

Surely the 3-strikes rumour would be covered by it not being an AFL-imposed suspension?

I'd say they're trying to distance themselves completely from it, and the best way to do so is by not mentioning it specifically at all.

On 19/08/2012 at 05:57, why you little said:

Ssssssstrike 3???

A strong contingent at the Sandringham Hotel on Sunday evening seemed to think yes indeed Strike 3! If this is the case he will not play again this season and an announcement via the AFL is to follow.

All rumours at this stage.

Well that's just it. It could be but no-one can be sure because of the vagueness of the response.

To cut it out at the root they needed to specifically address the widely circulating rumour about drugs. But they didn't .. and the rumours will persist.

In the AFL's eyes...Tanking and 3 strikes are all just figments of our imagination! :)

Bart: "Do you think he was involved in the Kennedy assasination somehow?"

Homer "I do, Now"

The story I heard is that he tested positive in an "unoffical" club test and they are hiding him so as to avoid the "offiicial" AFL drug test.

Can't the AFL testers rock up to his house to test him at any old random time they like?

Yes

IMO It is all BS

Probably went out the night before the game last week

He might be a great footballer but he is not a rocket scientist

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
