Beams signs for 3 ... Cloke edges closer to Dees?

Featured Replies

Cloke wont be at Carlscum...with what $$$ do they have to throw around.....under the table as per usual???....well you just cant get away with it anymore..its not the 80's blues..

It will be us or Freo or Pies.We all have the money..I dont think the Pies are keeping up tho...$$ wise.Or even Essenscum actually..they had a crack years ago.

If Richmond also think they are in the mix with the $$ for Cloke then I call BS! Arent they trying to imitate debt demolition like all clubs??? So how could they afford such a big fish as Cloke.

I think we are in with a massive show but I dont want him for a Mill a year.

Cloke & Calrk...yep awesome!.............. but if it doesnt happen then we go the midfield as we are all collectively stating as members/supporters.

Richmond might be doing debt demolition, but clubs like richmond spend just as much as us if not more on their FD, paying 100% of the cap is a given tehse days so soing they cant afford cloke when they have a budget of 40Mp/a is silly imo, it is just the cap space which will effect the offer they give.

Carlton are dodgy imo and they shouldnt have the money but somehow will work around it imo......maybe not

We have the money and the space, we and Cloke would want to be sure he is in both our Windows imo, which wont start till 2015/16 imo and Cloke is 29/30? is this to late for us?

the Dees should be in Goddard's ear as much as possible at the moment. He would bring some serious class and skill, even if he has no further improvement.

No need. He will stay at the Saints.

Cloke is a proven power-forward but I don't particularly want him at the Dees. Our need is class in the middle. Listening to Schwarz and Scott Lucas on SEN last night and they both agreed that our defence is in really good shape, and forwards stocks are OK - at least in terms of potential. It is our midfield that needs class and pace.

Having said that i am not all that convinced of Boak either. Since he became the flavour of the month I have seen himn play a couple of games and think there are players of equal potential to Boak not getting games at other clubs (two at WCE whose names I can't recall) who we should go after.

If Carlton get Cloke, and I reckon they will, I don't reckon they can also afford Goddard - the Dees should be in Goddard's ear as much as possible at the moment. He would bring some serious class and skill, even if he has no further improvement.

We're certainly not analysing the same team.

Since our man mountain went down, we can hardly kick a goal!!

Our forward stocks are NOT okay until we get someone to support Mitch - Cloke is a gun, can play, doesn't need protein shakes, development, preseasons, etc.

Further, his contract would be front ended and this allows the club to pay our developing players more when they reach potential.

It's a win - win. We need to go hard and get Trav. I don't care if his old man comes along - can't be any worse than GWS's Homer.

Thats fair, I want the first two to be true. But there is no logic in leaving a team playing finals and GF for another that currently struggles to play finals (Carlton) for the difference of $100,000 p.a. after tax.

Big decisions are made on emotion, instinct and passion. Not logic.

With his decision I'd be meeting the coaches (Ratten vs Neeld) hearing their plans, and chatting to friends I may have at both clubs.

Then I'd imagine what success would feel like at both clubs.

And pick ...

Unless of course Cloke knows Mick will be at Carlton next year...

Indeed.

I have always thought Carlton are in the pole position and nothing has happened to change my view.

Will get as much as we offer from Carlton who are desperate for a big forward.

Chance to play finals football and a possible GF in the next three years.

Vs no chance of a GF in the length of his contract at the Dees and in the first three years there will be far more losses than wins.

It is Carlton for me.

Fully agree. Just add Malthouse to Carlton. The whole thing is stitched up already.

To sort of quote David Schwarz 99%, certain he won't be coming to Melbourne. For him there is no incentive what so ever, not even the money because he can get virtually what we pay from anywhere else.

We're certainly not analysing the same team.

You're living in a dream world

You're living in a dream world

Why? Because I'm demanding action? Because this club has to stand up? Because I want success?

Please explain?

I agree. We have to go flat out even if we are ultimately unsuccesful.

Gotta be in it.

What is it that everyone loves about Cloke?

I'd rather see us chasing a slick outside mid, even if we have to wait a year or two for them. Would hate to think we threw too much at Cloke and missed an opportunity for a good mid.

We can get both - that's the beauty of the position we find ourselves in.

On 3AW this morning, Ando was talking about the common denominator in the latest winning grand final teams and....yep, you guessed it, TWO power forwards.

Quality mids are in the draft, J Viney is pretty much ready to go, we're away!

I don't buy the "we can't walk and chew gum at the same time!" argument, we use our draft picks to trade for and draft midfielders and use the war chest to get Cloke.

Walking = trade for and draft midfielders i.e. Boak, Caddy, Viney, pick 3 pick 4, pick 13 whatever..

Chewing = get Cloke.

Combine = awesome!

Whew had a heart attack then, thought the thread read Beamer signs for 3....slow down heart!

Don't we have to trade for Tippett?

In my humble opinion it would be a mistake to go for Cloke He is old starting to lose it and is very expensive

Please lets look elsewhere

Oh and it is just the type of scenario that MFC gets involved in high risk expensive no upside

Anyway we will see!

Pretty sure 25 isn't old. There is plenty of upside when a out of form forward is still the number one contested marking player in the league. If anyone is happy with our forward line at the moment then they must be happy eating cat sh!t for dinner too.

No no no nono no nono no please no. DOn't need him too expensive and not that good.

Yep and how do they get it?? Mids. We could have Jesus H Christ there himself at FF and we would still struggle with our I50s which are amongst the lowest in the league. As well our delivery is bottom of the class.

I also think that Cloke jrn and srn are selfish crazy bastards, in that they want top dollar and would be prepared to swap Melbourne-based clubs to get it. Nose despite his face, sort of. It's like they have some mad Spanish blood in their lineage.

Is Travis really as good as what David is pedalling ($1 mill plus p/a), partic in a bottom 4 club?

Do we really want David hanging around the MFC sticking his nose in more than he should?

Is it value for money if he gets very little supply?

'nose despite his face' ... surely this another demonland 'mute' point?

Totally agree and people need to understand that if a elite mid was available we would and should go after them but there isn't many out there who are out of contract and willing to leave.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
