Man U 2 - 3 Tottenham

Massive

Yeah , great win to the Spurs . Gareth Bale's goal was a beauty . Only got to watch the highlights but noticed that Tottenham held on to that 3 - 2 lead for about 40 minutes . United had their chances by the sounds of things .

That breaks a long drought at Old Trafford . Dempsey looks like being a very handy acquisition as well .

Everton have a chance to maintain their excellent form and my 'Hammers' have a tough one at home against the 'Gunners' . Match of the round is probably Newcastle vs Manchester United . Vital game for both teams .

The EPL returns this week after a week's break due to the World cup qualifiers . Match of the day is probably Spurs vs Chelsea . A fierce rivalry remains between these 2 clubs as pointed out in this blog . It's from a Spurs fan so it's a tad biased ... http://soccernet.esp.../id/109?cc=3436

At the start of the decade (90's) Spurs beat Chelsea 2-1 with Gary Lineker scoring the winner. It took another 32 league games before Tottenham would win again. I was at White Hart Lane in 2006 when we finally ended that hoodoo with a 2-1 win and would rank it as one of the best atmospheres that I have ever witnessed at a football match.

The other big game is the 'Tyne-Wear' Derby (or the 'Wear-Tyne' Derby) between Sunderland and Newcastle . These games are always keenly fought out affairs and according to this blog , the rivalry dates all the way back to English Civil War . A more balanced article is this one ... http://soccernet.esp.../id/175?cc=3436

With Sunderland having already confirmed the game as a sell-out, the derby fixture has a long history of drawing big crowds - dating back to the turn of the 20th century, when 120,000 fans made their way to St James's Park (then a 30,000 capacity stadium) only for the game to be abandoned and rioting to ensue.

Some vital games for many teams this weekend, especially so for Liverpool and Everton . Here's the current table with Everton and West Brom still being prominent ... http://soccernet.esp...-league?cc=3436

Chelsea top of the league, sets up an intersting tie next week against United! RVP Rooney partnership looking better each game! But so is Mata Hazard, chelsea would be deadly with a decent forward in there

Yeah , was a top game last night . Mata was brilliant and I thought Torres looked dangerous . He could have scored at least 1 goal . The game itself lived up to it's expectations .

Thought Man City looked gone there for a while . Down to only 10 men they did well to win it in the end . The title race is wide open .

My Hammers continue to get points . Big Sam has got them playing well as a team . Liverpool are getting back into it but Arsenal dropped points . Looking forward to the Sunderland/Newcastle clash tonight .

West Ham almost came in to the league already as a premier league side with Big Sam and this current crop. Done well to add Carroll in as well. Almost nullfies that dreadful year under Avram Grant, one to be forgotten

Here's an interesting article following on from the Mark Clattenburg controversy ...

http://soccernet.esp...matches?cc=3436

But former Premier League referee Clive Wilkes believes the way Clattenburg has been treated by Chelsea is creating a disdain towards the club amongst officials.

"I keep in touch with a lot of the lads and there is such a strength of feeling about what is happening to Mark," Wilkes told The Sun. "I know a few referees who are even talking about boycotting Chelsea games because of all this.

COYB, any season above Liverpool is a good one, but with Fellaini being arguably the most improved player in the league, and jelavic being dangerous up front a much improved team, could be looking at champions league!

Yeah , you're havin' a damn good run ! And how 'bout West Brom ? And my Hammers ? 4th , 5th and 6th respectively - who would have picked that at the start of the season ?

Just goes to show the importance of a team playing as a team ...that attitude can take you a long way ...

Would have been better to steal a few wins instead of the draws in the last few matches, but can't complain when sitting 4th, especially when we have been such slow starters in most seasons. Although it's still quite early on in the season.

Yes westham have done well, Kevin Nolan is always a danger around goals, and hopefully Carroll will be able to break his duck sooner rather than later, just not against us haha! And jaaskeleinen had a ripper against Newcastle.

It would be good to see the table stay a bit different to usual, champions football calling my toffees and it would help us get a bit more cash flow and would be key to help us draw a few more quality players!

Yeah , it's early doors still but it's nice to dream . What will help West Ham immeasurably is if we secure the Olympic stadium . The League is so often defined by the have's and have not's . Terribly difficult just to compete in some years .

In all honesty there's a few 'League's' within the League . To finish top 10 or 12 for a non 'Money' Club is quite an achievement . I'm rapt with what big Sam has been able to do so far with West Ham . He's got a decent track record of course, with his years at Bolton.

The early game on Saturday night (11.45 PM) should be a beauty . Arsenal vs Tottenham . Now there's a rivalry !!

Ibrahimovic's goal last night anyone? Or goals for that matter. What a display.

But that goal was nuts.

Here's a short video of the 'Match Predictor' between the Blues and City.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's new boss Rafael Benitez has some interesting things to say in this article from 'The Guardian'

Matchweek 15 throws up some interesting games . We have a couple of London Derby's on offer but probably the game of the round sees Manchester City host Everton . City manager Roberto Mancini has some pointed things to say about Samir Nasri in this article .

And Mancini said: "In my opinion we are talking about a top, top player here. And if he wants he can change every game. But I think he can do better. He has played some good games for us but he can do better because he has everything.

The Manchester Derby (just after Sunday midnight) is the obvious game of the round in Matchweek 16 . Everton at home against Spurs will hold a lot of interest as well as the mighty Hammers vs Liverpool . All 3 games are on late Sunday / early Monday morning . Arsenal vs West Brom on Sunday morning (2am) is another good match-up .

Here are this weekends fixtures and to view the current table you can visit this site . The game of the round is probably tonight's clash (11.45pm) between Newcastle and Manchester City . Stoke vs Everton and the London Derby between QPR and Fuham are another couple of good match-ups .

Interesting article during the week about Arsenal future prospects under Arsene Wenger . Former great George Graham had some telling things to say . For the full story click on this link .

"I don't think Arsenal are ever going to compete with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United," he told the Sun. "I thought they could have competed with United because they don't spend the money the other two do, but Arsenal are not going to compete with them either.

In the past Arsene's teams have played some of the best football I have ever seen. It was breathtaking, but the quality of players there now is inferior to the players he used to have and I don't care how good a coach or manager you are, you need good players to win things."

For all the weekend's games you can visit this site . Spurs vs Stoke could be an interesting game and the Hammers at home against Everton will be another one to watch .

And here is the current table . All the big guns are settling at the top with only Liverpool and Newcastle lagging behind a little (the 'Reds' are starting to slowly work their way back into proceedings)

A full fixture is being played on Boxing day . Manchester United vs Newcastle may be the main game although Stoke vs Liverpool could provide a few goals .

For an interesting read ... Sir Alex Ferguson relishes Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford

"One thing is for sure, he'll get a great reception when he comes to Old Trafford and quite rightly when he comes on the pitch.

Ferguson meanwhile dismissed reports that Paul Scholes has decided to retire at the end of the season. Scholes, 38, called time on his career in 2011, only to return to action in January.

There has also been speculation about the futures of Ryan Giggs, 39, and Rio Ferdinand, 34, but Ferguson said he had heard nothing from Scholes and predicted that Giggs will play for up to two years more while Ferdinand's form was "terrific".

Arsenal defeat Newcastle 7-3 . Amazing scoreline

Here is a wrap-up of the game with John Barnes, Kevin Keegan and Craig Burley ...

Theo Walcott gave Arsene Wenger yet another reminder of his goal-scoring talents as he bagged a stunning hat-trick to sink Newcastle in a ten-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger had talked up Walcott as the next Thierry Henry yesterday, and the England forward - still to pen a new deal with the club - did little to disprove that idea today, scoring three excellent goals and setting up two more to give Arsenal the win that ensures they will end 2012 in fifth place, two points behind Chelsea and three adrift of Tottenham with a match in hand.

Meanwhile, there's been a bit of trouble between Mancini and Balotelli at Man City . Here is the full story with a wrap up from the crew at ESPN FC Press Pass ...

The photographs, posted on the Daily Mail website, appear to show the Italians confronting one another, with the newspaper reporting the dispute was sparked by an over-zealous challenge from Balotelli on Scott Sinclair.
The incident occurred as City prepare for their FA Cup third round tie against Watford, with the Manchester Evening News also reporting that the clash came about as "Mancini reacted furiously to the challenge and chastised Balotelli".

In the following article, Alex Ferguson had some interesting things to say about his team's opponent tonight ...

...Ferguson 'surprised' by Liverpool position

"I don't really look at that. I look at that mob that's behind us, the team that's directly behind us. Their programme, who they've got next. I do that all the time.

Finally, here's a match simulation for tonight's encounter between the Gunners and City ... Video

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
