What can the AFL actually do? I think they will just change the draft to an NBA style lottery system which would solve everything.

Nothing more they can do without sanctioning the whole competition and admitting they were wrong and tanking exist which I think we all no wont happen.

I reckon the system we have now (that is no priority picks) is fine, at the end of the day the cap between 1-5 isn't much and sometimes the no. 1 doesn't turn out to be as good as no. 7. Coaches will prefer wins over going up one spot in the draft.

As rpfc has indicated above, the lottery system does not prevent tanking in the US, although their lottery system is only one type where the lower you finish the mroe chances you get for the number 1 pick which creates an incentive to tank. The AFL could implement a lottery where every team outside the 8 gets an equal chance at each pick instead of the NBA model where the team who fnishes last gets more balls in the lottery. This of course could result in a very good team plagued by injuries for one season finishing 9th or 10th and ending up with the number 1 pick but I think it is a better way to address tanking with the AFL having the discretion to award mid 1st round or after 1st round PP's for teams who consistently struggle.

HT - yes the AFL has already assessed the landscape and said no PP's will be awarded this year, much to GC's chagrine I can only guess.

    Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time.     Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded.     Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was.
