Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

Featured Replies

The actuality of any Cloke ambush must surely weigh upon the idea he actually is going anywhere. I very much doubt it. This is all really a hypothesis encumbant upon the nuisance that is his father. Eddie and co will get a deal done as they always seem to.

Ill call it now...Cloke will sign at Collingwood for around 800-825 pa for 4 years.(3.3 over 4 ) Ink will hit paper within a month.........just watch.

Could be translated to

How do we no that Travis Cloke is even considering leaving Collingwood. Only his father really knows the answer to this question. Eddie and co will get a deal done as they always seem to.

Cell phoned.

Cloke Snr. was adamant this morning on KB's radio show that it will be 5 years...so i wait for further strategies.

I am not so sure he will remain a bird.

I'm not so sure about that, I guess it's the old Chinese whispers thing, but I didn't hear him as being adamant at all. It sounded to me as more of an ambit claim, but let's wait and see. If he holds off until the end of the season you would think he is gone otherwise he will be signing in the next month and staying.

It's a no brainer for me. A spine of Clark, Cloke, Garland and Frawley would set us up for a period of sustained success. Get it done, MFC.

I think you might be under rating Priddis quite a bit. He is one of the top mids in the game now and Kerr on his day really gives them a lift, we don't have anyone anywhere near that level. I agree with you that they are a vey even side.

He's an A grader, but not a "star" in my book. I reserve "star" for Matthews, Williams, Judd, Ablett, Voss, Ricciouto, Buckley, Skilton, Bunton, ...

rather than mixing metaphors why not refer to "stars" as "A+" . (Or if you prefer A, AA and AAA instead of A-, A and A+)

So Priddis is an A grader and Judd, Ablett are A+ grade or AAA grade

I reckon Judd's in deep ka ka.

He's spent the last 10 years propping up West Coast, then Carlton.

The body's broken from all the blocking, bumps and physicality.

You watch him, doesn't impact a contest any more.

Oh, btw, I still want Cloke.

The point is their midfield is streets ahead of ours at the moment, let's not get in the classification argument again.

We only know of Cloke because of his fathers ego. Are we attempting to develop a potent winning team or just a 'collection' of talent ?

This year introduces free agency. There will be a trade period whos like we have never witnessed before. Personally id be making a beeline for Goddard. Theres one we do know will be up for grabs, just by way of example.

Stick Brendon in the guts...put Viney and others around him and watch the scoreboard light up.

I have no doubt other potential goodies will appear as season comes to a close.

If Goddard was the Judd of our midfield he'd get tagged out of the game. I can see what you mean BB59, but Goddard is not the solution. I'd go a KPF before I went Goddard.

To be honest, I'd be looking at FA for not just Cloke, but for Brad Sewell (give him a three year contract and see if that woos him). Then I'd look at another experienced mid (say Sam Mitchell). Sewell and Mitchell would help nurture guys like Gysberts, Trengove, Grimes and Viney. Then use one or two of the compensation picks on young, quick outside mids.

It's not just 'let's go after Cloke and stop there', it's 'let's go after Cloke and target one or two experienced, well respected ball winners, and use compo picks on young mids'.

Im sure the Melbourne Football Brains Trust is in full swing planning its raids and trades for seasons end.......even now. Thats not to say they know all and how, just that they will have already started. I also have no doubt part of this includes subtefuge with smoke and mirrors of the most stifling sort.

Hes gone from stone to gem...but hes not comensurately polished.

Agreed.

classic!

Clokes asking price is ridiculous!

Clark is doing a better job than Cloke this year anyway.

Aswell, I think Cloke is serious about a 5 year deal and if Collingwood dont come

to the table with one, then Cloke wont stay.

No, the point is you said I under estimated him.

I didn't. They don't have "star" mids, which was my premise..

I tend to believe this as well. IMO neither Cloke would wish to dirty they're feathered nests.

I think the only real possibility could be the Blues.

I'm with you AF.

IMO Goddard is handy in a good side, but would all but disappear in a young growing side.

He has no weapons to aid his standing, & I think he's fallen away from his best, of a couple of years back.

I'm not interested in a mature player like him, that isn't quick, or such a fantastic mark of the ball. He just adds to the quality depth, & at the price we'd have to pay. No thanks.

Whilst im happer to concede there will be others and possibly better choices become avail than Goddard..he is a valid option. Have so many forgot a fairly recent grand final. Hes only 27 with a good 4 years ahead. that makes for an ideal contract period. But......hes only an example.

im still guffawing..... Goddard not a fantastic mark ??? oh well

But there will be others :)

Or perhaps Judd and Ablett are "A grade above A grade"

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
