Fro what it's worth, Greg 'Venom' Denham just said he 'knows for a fact' Travis Cloke doesn't want to come to Melbourne and won't be.

Oh, well - that's it then.

Greggy has spoken.

"The tom toms are beating very, very strong that the deal is done ... there's no talk coming from management, but in the old days on The Footy Show I might have been walking out rubbing my hands together saying we've got the best story of the year," McGuire said.

Yep Cloke is headed to Carlton, hope you are rubbing your hands together Ed.

I think "for what it's worth" pre-empts your response, doesn't it? But I wonder if there's another question about whether these sorts of rumours have any effect (disinformation etc). I don't get to read the Melbourne press much, so I'm not sure.

They should announce the deal now so the AFL can investigate their Salary cap straight away. I just got back from the supermarket and asked where the brown bags are and they said they are sold out

Greggy's struggled to be newsworthy all year - I hoped my sarcasm gushed forth, good doctor :)

Greg is usually spot on though.

I guess that's more where my question was going, which if I rephrased it would be: is Denham just an idiot or is he somebody's idiot?

No he is just an idiot plain and simple.

Who knows whether Denham is right, or not, but Melbourne supporters shouldn't be offended. If I was Cloke there'd be no way I'd consider Melbourne.

Neither did Clark!

Slightly off topic thank our Higher Power we all watch Marngrook and have long given Footy Show (The Six Stooges) the flick.

According to SEN this morning, the deal that dees threw at cloke was much more than 800k for five years.

More along the lines of 7 mil over 7 years, which you would think might be enticing.

Although i think it was greg denham suggested cloke wouldn't come to melbourne for 20 mil.

I have a feeling most players might play anywhere for a seven mil seven year contract.

Denham actually said " Why would you go to Melbourne" he knew the offer was 7 million over 7 years but you'd want 20 million to be going to Melbourne KB chimed in then just saying Greg we know you just don't like Melbourne

Although I agree with the overall point of 'we are not an enticing place to come and play' - Denham is talking out of MFC hating arse and doesn't deserve to be taken seriously.

Like he would know anything concerning Cloke's intentions.

Best news I have heard today. Cloke is not that good a player and he is less good as a bloke. His Dad is worse. And with our midfield he would starve in the fwd line.

I don't think Denham hates Melbourne at all, I reckon he has simply lost any respect that he may have had for the club. I remember thinking a couple of years ago that he quite liked Melbourne and was even a little too bullish on our prospects. I suspect that there was a tipping point where our ineptness finally annoyed him. Who would have thought ?

Btw, just in case some supporters think that because Clark chose to come to Melbourne, why wouldn't Cloke ? There are a couple of things to consider. Firstly, a year is a long time in footy and 12 months ago we'd just appointed a new coach and along with that comes some 'blue sky' hope; and Cloke is presently at the biggest club in the land, whereas Clark was in a two team town. There are very different dynamics at play. There may have been some appeal for Clark to play in footy mad Melbourne. Trying to sell a future to Clark after these last 12 months may have been far more difficult.

and then ....some of just think Venom's a [censored]...simple as.

Theres losing respect , and theres taking EVERY opportunity to have a shot at us, and he does. Even Desert Head acknowledges Venom hates us.

Im just glad someone does....we need to build on this :)

We have Neeld to entice him. Ex Pie. :o

This I don't agree.

Sylvia, Moloney, Jamar, Viney (coming soon) and Trengove(another year older), McK(tagger beautiful) will get it down there.

Incorrect. The 7mil/7year 'offer' was actually refuted by Denham as ever having been made by Melbourne.

Denham actually said " Why would you go to Melbourne" he knew the offer was 7 million over 7 years but you'd want 20 million to be going to Melbourne KB chimed in then just saying Greg we know you just don't like Melbourne

He definitely said he "knows for a fact" Cloke won't come to Melbourne. This was prior to the 7mil/7year bit which he refuted (as I've said above).

He was unequivocal. Cloke won't be a Dee.

So ... to whom do we turn our attention now?

Watch Marngrook! Ditch the Footy Show RR. 6 stooges!

I agree, i heard him this morning and there is a bit of an edge there (i hadn't heard him talk about the dees before). I know part of it is theater and to deliberately wind people up (nothing like angry callers to give a talk back show a bit of fizz) but he was pretty scathing and dismissive in his tone, particularly in his comment that he knows for a fact Cloke not interested in going to the dees (what's his source?)

Seems a bit weird to me to feel such seeming disdain about a footy club. I could understand if he was a player and there was a history there but he is a reporter

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
