The US postal service was the major sponsor during most of the wins.

I'm sure they know nothing about moving drugs around for years without getting sprung.

I'm going for a drive down Beach Rd for a game of skittles.

Keep these junkies honest.

Love George.

Him and Bill Hicks are probably my favourite funnymen .

Apart from the WITS on here.

Lance is a full blown pyschopath....Not one ounce of remorse in that confession.

Quite scary to watch in reality..

I thought of the exact same term as well WYL... at lest Narcissist in extreme, & likely more...

You know, I never ever liked Armstrong from the very start years back...

I just get a feeling about some people. don't know what it is but it usually points me in the right direction somehow re bad apples.

funny when I was a kid I had the same thing with J Kennedy, from the first time I saw him.

But loved Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, & Bill Clinton, & even Bush senior.

Instinct.

I had a fair amount of doubt about him as well but he was so well admired for his winning ability and for his charity work that you were loathe to say anything. I did once, and got accused of being too cynical.

Thinking about it, if many or most were 'on the gear' then how would it have been possible to win the 'Tour' 7 times in a row as a clean athlete? It's not logical. After many of his teammates got done, that kinda made up my mind to a certain degree. Was still holding out hope that he was innocent - mainly for those who believed in him.

Armstrong was so well protected. And his fierce attack on those who accused him made you want to believe him. He had it all planned out - right down to the last detail.

But there were a few clues. He first 'retired' after his 7th win in 2005. Not long after he retired, 'blood passports' were first initiated and introduced.

George Bush Senior?

The full ramifications of this are yet to play out.

Armstrong is guilty of mass fraud, deception and conspiracy to defraud across several countries.

Hope he goes down .

Never liked him either .

Whats to like?

I was talking about the feeling I got about his, umm, soul? body language? facial expression? I don't quite know how to quantify it, but its a intuitive thing. i just didn't get the feeling of honesty from him but some sort of warning.

I just never liked him, or trusted him, or believed him much, even in the face of the media.

George Bush Senior, the person 'moreso', than his policies. I wasn't as aware of his governments policies & criteria back then as I had enough on my plate & was less aware or interested of world affairs.

So my perception was of a man who believed in what he was doing, & was open & honest. the world has changed a lot since desert storm.

the world has changed a lot since outsourcing manufacturing to asia, & the credit cycles that started in the early 70's...

Good doco tonight on ABC Four Corners re Armstrong and why he is still telling fibs

He is denying doping in 2009/10 to avoid criminal charges because of the 5 year statute of limitations

The UCI has a lot of work to do to right the ship. The sport should be bigger than the UCI and they need to reform themselves

If you missed it its worth watching on ABC's iView

So if irrefutable evidence comes through that he did dope in 2009/10 then he could face criminal charges yeah? You'd reckon there would be a few lining up to ping him if that's the case.

Yeah, just viewed the show. Thanks for that. Quite a powerful exposé and well worth a look. The stuff about the UCI, Greg LeMond and Floyd Landis was a real eye-opener.

He's in a fair bit of strife. Could be in and out of various Courts for some time. If they nail him about the 2009 and 2010 tours then he could be in real trouble. My gut feeling is he'll have enough money stashed away to be able to be well represented. And you know how that works over there ...

No updates on the action the UCI is going to take to clean up its sport. What a sham organisation.

Just read Tyler Hamilton's book. The doping is so far beyond Armstrong but because he was just such a mega [censored] who was able to sustain the cheating for so long, win so often and gain so much wealth and destroy so many on the way he is the lightning rod. They all did it and had to do it to compete at that level. Amazing what cyclist pit themselves through most if them earning fark all and getting nothing out of it. The UCI is a disgrace.

Ps at one point after he retired Armstrong was going to buy the Tour de France from the current owners.

New doco out called "The Armstrong Lie" directed by Alex Gibney (who also produced and directed "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room", "No End in Sight" and "Catching Hell" amongst other notable documentaries that he's made)

The following podcast ... The BS Report featuring Alex Gibney was made back in April and it serves as an excellent behind the scenes look at the making of "The Armstrong Lie". It's a nice lead in to the doco which should be out soon ( it might in fact end up on youtube reasonably quickly - that seems to happen with a lot of doco's) ... the podcast is 75 minutes long but it's well worth a listen for those who are interested.

Anyone think James Hird and his missus might once upon a time have been big fans of Lance?

The similarities are there.

Take drugs,co-erce others to take illegal drugs ,hush it ,force others to hush it and then deny, deny, deny.

The complete story goes back quite some time ... 20 years ago, the following is alleged ...

'Lance Armstrong paid me $110k to throw race', Italian rider Roberto Gaggioli claims

"Lance said that my team, Coors Light, had agreed to it. I understood that it had all been decided,"

"Two laps from the end, I was in a breakaway with Lance, Bobby Julich and some Italian riders from the Mercatone team. When Lance made a sign, I turned away as if not to see that he had escaped. He broke away to win on his own."

Also, here's a bit more from Alex Gibney (Director of "The Armstrong Lie") This time in a short interview with Keith Olbermann

they probably still are, as he's probably still rich?

Hush payments (golden handshakes) have been going on at board level now for decades, & now common place for them to get $M10mill for saying goodbuy.

Any wonder this is now a common occurrence now in sport, the cash grab first before the sport. the benchmark was set by the directors of public companies. Elite sportsmen see this & want a piece from the same Pie.

The thing that gets me is the number of people prepared to overlook the morally deficient because the offenders still make good money or that they're good blokes or the like. As Allen McGillvray used to say about cricket a few years back, " the game is not the same".

I've been away frm Demonland for a while. Wish I'd seen this thread earlier.

What's Lance doing these days? Book Royalties are down I believe.

Posted

Hiding and trying to not lose everything.

Book royalties?

No royalties from me. I was given his book, but never got round to reading it. I've since posted it back to him, with an appropriate comment. Oh yeh .. postage was unpaid.

Lance Armstrong: 'I've admitted to it all and suffered enough'

15 years of blatantly cheating with a concoction of various PED's and he thinks he's suffered enough? The man is quite delusional if he thinks things can just move on as a matter of course.

Yeah, sure, there's been plenty of other drug cheats but has anyone gone close to the lengths that this bloke went to? Stomped on more than a few people in his manic pursuit of success and money too.

He says he hasn't got 100 million to lose (re the whistleblower lawsuit) ... maybe not a "visible" 100 million would be more like it.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
