Hannibal 5,814 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I looked at a couple of his SANFL stats from 2011. He seemingly had a quiet Grand Final, but he had 20 disposals, 8 marks, and kicked 2 goals in the Prelim. Not a bad effort for a 17 year old playing against men. He had a disposal efficiency of 90% from those 20 possessions. But I don't store a lot of weight in that stat without seeing the game. : )
Ouch! 2,276 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Maybe that says something about Kreuzer's draft class - Masten at 3, Morton at 4? Yeah although Cotchin at 2. Masten seems to be coming right, and well... ummm they might be able to do something about Morton :D

It's one of the things that makes me like Toumpas, Grundy etc... and i'll put even Viney, Crouch and O'Meara into this category also. They spent parts of last year playing senior football against Men. A lot of the players that come out of Tassie will have played in the state league as much as for the Mariners, and get a feel for playing senior football. I'm not saying that the TAC Cup isn't a good competition, but the kids that play SANFL, etc I feel come up to speed a little quicker.
nutbean 8,838 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I will be pleased with either Wines or Toumpas as the real experts (aka - demonlanders) or split down the middle on who we should take but are basically only offering up those two - at least we shouldnt see a "WTF??" like we did with Cook/Gysbert
Guest NoMoreMrNiceGuy Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Should go well down back. Hahaha!

Guest NoMoreMrNiceGuy Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I know it's just a twitter conversation but this was Toumpas' response to a Tigers fan who sent him a tweet. Should provide succor to anyone unjustifiably worried about the so-called 'go home factor'. tom wilson @JamesCharleson6 @JToumpas i wish you could come to the tigers man, im 15 and i idol my game on you #superstar #brownlowcertainty2016 ahah Collapse 2:03 AM - 19 Nov 12 · Details 19 Nov Jimmy Toumpas @JToumpas @JamesCharleson6 great club the tiges but anywhere would be insane! Thanks buddy, means a lot! Good luck with everything.
Redleg 42,195 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 This boy could arguably be number 1 in this draft and now looks like he might slip to our pick at 4.
Lil_red_fire_engine 11,394 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Daniher aside, if we get Toumpas we will be getting the two players I would take at 1 and 2 for picks 4 and 27. GOLD.
Demon Disciple 12,544 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 FWIW, i just asked my mum who we should pick up at pick 4. She doesn't give a rats about AFL, nor the draft. She believes we should pick up Ollie Wines, when i asked why, she stated because she likes his name (she is not an alcoholic). Not much, but she currently has the hot hand, given she was the only one to back Green Moon in the Melbourne Cup in our family, where again she just picked him on a whim.

BIG JIM 508 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 This is all rubbish in my view GWS will take toumpas IMO. Wines will do just fine.

OK. I'm not counting my chickens but this from a kid of just 17 suggests that he's going to be a polished performer for whoever picks him: [media=]
ILLDieADemon 804 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I have been throwing up these 2 name for the past few months, Wines or Toumpas. My head says Toumpas but my hart says Wines. I like the fact that Wines Is mates with The Viney's which mean he probably wont leave for more money or to go to another club, If Neeld really want the toughest team to play against then Wines is his man. How tough will our midfield be with Wines, Viney, Trengrove, Jones, Mckenzey and Magner in it. talk about a tackling team, those guys will murder for the ball. Toumpas will bring some flair though, we really need a run and carry player which we lost in Scully when he decided to run and carry 6 MILLION to GWS. I just hope GWS pick one of these players before us just so every one on here in 5 years time will not be going on and on about how we should have picked the other one.
Hannibal 5,814 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Another thing worth noting - Jack Trengove played his entire first year at Melbourne as an 18 year old. Toumpas turns 19 in January and will play the entire season as a 19 year old, having already had two years against men. I'm not suggesting that we should have unrealistic expectations of he and Viney (should we be lucky enough to get him), but they'll be able to impact our team straight away.

Norm Smith's Curse 2,602 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I hear Wines is expected to debut for whom ever picks him up on round 1 as well. Being that doggies, demons and GWS are the ones in the picture he would be good enough to also step right in.
ILLDieADemon 804 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 How can the Herald Sun report that we are going to pick Toumpas when they don't even know who GWS are going to pick?

Norm Smith's Curse 2,602 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 And SEN echoed the Hun's view.
