WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS

I just finished watching yesterday's games and I know that being at a game is better than watching it on fox. SA to me appeared to be a very strong side but seemed to come down a peg when toumpas came off to rest most, if not all of the last 1/4. Maybe with Jimmy Toumpas not playing against metro, this may be the reason for their loss in that game.

He has leader stamped all over him and you can never have too many leaders. He was everywhere in the first half and his composure is first class in tight. Never seemed to panic and delivered by foot on nearly every occasion. Except his first possession which went out on the full.

He has some sort of hip injury and would have been rested for next weeks game. They said during the coverage that he is having an op after the champs. Even though he is carrying a small injury he was still a smooth mover.

He reminds me a lot of Trengove at the same age. He is definitely one to look for at next weeks game and if we don't trade pick 4, he is a great chance to be a dee.

I loved Wines game as well. Good friends with Viney and together they would be hard to stop. They would be knocking people over everywhere.

My preference early at the draft is mids, mids and more mids.

Pick 3 Toumpas, 4 Wines, 12 Vlastuin as a hbf or trade it to port for Boak and then Viney at pick 22! Always nice to have dreams though :(

Like it, but won't happen unfortunately. Viney 3, Toumpas or Wines 4 (or Boak).

Would like you to be correct, though.

Pick 3 Toumpas, 4 Wines, 12 Vlastuin as a hbf or trade it to port for Boak and then Viney at pick 22! ....

the perfect storm

more likely

Pick 3 Viney (to get the hard pill), 4 Toumpas (pace skill footy smarts)12 Gartlett (fast midfileder/small fwd wizard...Rioli like) & wait and see who is there at 24 ...likely Adam Carter, WA small defender, skilled, hard & tough who can go into the midfield ...a good get at this pick)

I quite like the write ups on Stringer, but he's not really something we need right now. I still think we need back and forward pockets and another couple of mids as priorities.

Well put WJ. really do hope we snare him would add much pace and skill to our side.

God i hope we land this kid. Last year demonland had a forum " the finding another Jack Trengove thread", consider him found. If GC dont take him We got damn better.

So if GC get him who would we get. Isn't he regarded as the likely pick 3, who is regarded as the pick 2 we'd get instead. Is it Wines or someone else.

Grundy would be another potential pick #2 but GC do not need a ruckman

We would possibly go Grundy, Wines, Garlett, Mayes, Stringer (If we are feeling foolish)

O'Rourke, Wines or Mayes I'd suspect. Grundy if they're not hell bent on a mid, but we need run/pace/etc.

Love some of the quotes from that article,

“Shayne Crawford in particular, I remember one thing he wrote – on Christmas Day he always went for a run because he knew hiw opponent wouldn’t be doing that” Toumpas said
“Two or three years ago I was in Brisbane and me and Dad went out (it was) pissing down with rain and I went for a run because I knew no-one else would be doing it”

Any word on how his injury is progressing? i believe its a hip or leg problem?

Why don't you read the linked article at the top of this page ?

I saw more in Toumpas than I saw in Whitfield. Seems like a nice balanced player with good endurance in the same way as Gibbs, Ellis, Morton were seen as juniors. They rarely end up the best from their draft. Although most have said Whitfield is a lay down for number 1 I wonder if there will be a twist at some point with Toumpas or Grundy.

Doubt it.

Whitfield is just pure class.

Like what Scully was meant to be, but with sublime skill.

Have you not just highlighted the point. Where would you take Scully now in that draft?

ooo big man trying to be clever...simple question, didn't require a smart alec response.

The reason i ask is because that article only mentioned the rehab and not what the actual injury was...general sireness doesn't usually require surgery and 3month rehab.

Was asking if anyone knew what the actual issue was as much as anything, whether something fairly common like OP or something more serious.

Have you not just highlighted the point. Where would you take Scully now in that draft?

No, because I wouldn't take Scully for his lack of sublime skill, or even decent skill.

Whitfield is also bigger, looks like he will fill out a lot better, and is good overhead.

You asked how it was "progressing".

I was feeling a bit excited .....until you mentioned the "M" word.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
