The forgotten one....

So as is customary at this time of year it's time to talk about next year. As we have all been discussing Cloke,Boak,Viney,Stringer and any man and his dog who wants to be a dee I pondered what 2013 would be like and I have been wanting us to get Cloke but now that he will announce on the Footy show tonight that he will stay filthy for another 4 years I wondered what our forward line would look like and I forgot about Liam Jurrah. We don't need another forward to poach/recruit. Maybe a crumbing forward but we have our two main men it just so happens that both won't see much action for the rest of this year. I forgot that Jurrah kicked 40 goals 26 behinds last year in pretty ordinary team at times. If he can get his ScheiรŸe together next year he and Mitch who would have kicked 40-50 goals this year will whoop ass in 2013. Get Mids mids mids in the draft and maybe Boak and we could actually win some games next year.

A mighty big if cfh!

He is in more trouble than the early explorers.

I have a horrible gut feeling we might have seen almost the last of him.

If the normal MFC luck holds out he will be gone away for 5

I know it's a big if but if he does get off it's all gravy baby!

He has a terrible run of Injuries

They must be bad, he is a slow healer or he is the unluckest guy around.

Whatever way you look at it half a game in 2012 is a poor return so far.

I was at training today and he looked fine to me. He ran lap after lap after lap.... Did a bit of kicking and was all smiles.

Spoke to someone today from the AFL office and he said that Liam will get off with a fine and suspended sentence, which will make him free to continue his career.

Said it was all about the big legal backing he has from the club, who are being supported by the AFL, as he is important to indigenous relations and giving hope to the community.

Yet he is still listed as 2- 4 weeks

Hope the judge likes AFL

It would be nice for LJ to get fit and have a couple of games before the season comes to an end.

Does anybody know when his trial is set to begin?

its a few days after the darwin game

er

Horrible to use a 'like' but I totally agree. Ive never bought into this 'cursed' thing about MFC but at times you have to wonder.

You know.. Ive gone from disappointed to bloody angry about ol Liam.. He has everything to become the "it-guy" in footy and the bastards that are his family ( extended etc ) drag him back to inane and superfcilious infighting.

The poor bugger never really stood a chance, what , when you you have the Alice's version of the Hatfield and the McKoys going on. I suppose where we sit we would argue he always had choices, and has made some bad ones it seems. But I wonder if they were ever really options or just inevitability rearing its ugly head.

Love to see Jurrah wrench himself clear of all this and resurrect his career. Just cant see it happening.

Geez we can pickem sometimes !! :(

can you get someone to put that in writing please !!

Throwing a kid like Liam in jail for what happened is not the answer and never will be.

He didn't kill anyone and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time dealing with a cultural matter regarding his family that 99.9% of the population could never hope to understand

He's a rare talent with skills and abilities that are up there with Buddy Franklin

He'll be back.

Thanks for that Judge Hatchman

Just because he is a good football does not give him an out.

Do the crime, do the time

May well be the result

Yeah I think its unfortunate whats happened with Liam.

The most likely outcome is that we've already seen him play his best footy for us.

If he gets back, it will be a bonus for us. He's not the game changer M. Clark is. He's the icing on top.

Having a player who cant get onto the park is not good. Hope he can sort out all his injury issues soon. His injury record is almost as bad as Grimes.

I support him but I must say if I were a Judge then being a footballer would not help your cause at all .

I would be more inclined to throw the book at a footballer-because I know what idiots they can be .

Does anybody know when his trial is set to begin?

It began in the Herald Sun the next day after the alleged assault .

He'll be fine! As J-Riv said above (I watched a bit of training yesterday as well) he looked happy and was running really well. I feel that it's more of a fitness issue than his ankle keeping him out of the side.

Could see that he's really wanting back in on the action, watching with intent at all the drills being performed by the rest of the playing group.

I must say there are of drama queen Melbourne supporters lately fearing the worst for him ( I was one but watching him train yesterday changed that worry).

Oh and Geddy Lee, he is a game changer. Anyone that can kick 4 to 5 goals in match is.

Let's just hope he gets over theses charges and back to making oppositions worrying about how they are going to stop him and Clark firing up forward

Yes, I also imagine that with the time that has passed since the events, memories will have faded, stories will have changed, and who knows, "compensation" may have been given... so there may well be nothing solid enough to pass on more than a fine and possible suspended sentence? (as is no doubt patently obvious, I no zip about the machinations of our legal system).

I'd wager that there are very, very few who understand the intricacies of the legal system in the NT, hardtack.

????? how would an afl lackey know what a NT judge is going to decide sometime in the future. pure speculation. afl person should be censured himself

... so there may well be nothing solid enough to pass on more than a fine and possible suspended sentence?

I wish that were the case, unfortunately. Should Liam be found guilty of the charge of 'unlawfully causing serious harm', the NT's mandatory sentencing laws for violent offences mean that any custodial sentence cannot be fully suspended. Effectively, it means jail time.

The best hope of Liam staying out of prison is to have the 'serious harm' charge dropped. The remaining charges (carrying a weapon at night, aggravated assault) don't carry a mandatory prison sentence, as far as I can tell.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
