i don't understand why people keep saying this, none of those wins were against anything but easybeats. We were mostly absolute rubbish last year, and folded like a pack of cards whenever real pressure was applied - including the worst loss in the club's history.

You know what? I'm with you on this, we were going nowhere last year and it really p's me off when I hear that crap from people like Robert Walls. It's becomes like some kind of urban myth.

I was the match y'day....a couple of observations!

To the Watts bashers! Were any of you at the match? He made a few mistakes, agreed, but he willed himself to the contest and reads the play beautifully. A few of his mistakes were simply because none of his team mates demanded the ball or made space for him to kick it to. There was sweet FA movement in front of him the whole match.

Yep and the same goes for the defence in general, they have no one to kick to and they are continually under pressure. Watts disposal efficiency was pretty good and Col Garland who a lot like to get stuck into was excellant plus his 1% a's were top notch, he gets a bad rap but is one of the few that is standing up. Rivers is another one that holds up pretty well, probably the best of the senior players. With the amount of ball coming in they are going to make mistakes and with the lack of work ethic up the ground I don't blame them.

I notice that nobody is mentioning Blease. 29 disposals, and singled out by several experts as one of the few positives from the game. Surely someone has something nice to say about his effort? It's a massive improvement on what he's done previously.

The other positive is that by virtue of being horrendous we will have some high picks in a talent-laden draft. I still believe it can turn quicker than people think but we MUST draft extremely well and pick up some elite midfielders. I'm sick of watching our current plodding midfield run around getting torn a new one each week.

Apparently good snow shall be falling about The Ranges on Friday after some patchy stuff on Thursday. Might be enough to get on the pistes for a bit of cross country.

100% correct. I don't rate his performance in the slightest. Anyway, the fact that the kid we drafted to be our full forward/chf for the next decade is player loose man in defense says it all really.

Surely a loose man is that and is why he collected 34 touches?

Maybe Watts is fast enough to create a loose man in attack?

I did say before the match I liked the potential of Watts at CHF floating around the centre leaving a hole for Clarke to run into, and subsequently leave Howe to jump at FF

Dont know what happened to that plan but Watts in the backline doesnt seem to do much.

How many of his kicks Hb etc went to another player?

If Watts can get it 34 times it is usually then delivered to someone acurately

It is very bad play. Chipping the ball around in the back line, losing the ball and they kick a goal. This may be the lowest score a team had in a game of football.

Watts is one of the most gifted/skilled players at the club, placing him in the forward line where's there's almost no delivery won't do anyone any good. Better to at least try and take advantage of his skill off half back, as that's where it's most needed at the moment. MIDFIELD is the big issue at the moment, hopefully trading, drafting and improved fitness can rectify this. Once that has been sorted Watts can move into a more attacking role.
