I was at the game today and I will post my thoughts on that in another post.

Today though I was near the cheer squad and got sick of Melbourne supporters telling our players to man up.

This is now the modern game of football and its about zones and presses. And if we get these right we produce turnovers.

STOP living in the past. If we were to man up we would open up the game and lose by an extra 10 goals a week.

That is all.

I think it's just a term to yell when they mean work harder, chase, tackle etc... Same as yelling "ball!" rather than "umpire I'm sure that was incorrect disposal by the opposition player and I think you should consider awarding us a free kick for said transgression"

Yeah, "man up" to me is "stop allowing the opposition to get so many uncontested possessions". If each player is accountable, not necessarily "on" a player, then the opposition won't have as many more uncontested possesions as Richmond did today.

I fully understand and accept modern pressing and zoning, but when a dud like Grigg is left alone ALL DAY to run free and deliver into Richmond's hlaf forward line, I think old-fashioned things like "man up" are exactly what should happen. We often hear about the fat side of the ground or the skinny side of the ground. Surely, in a game that is based around contested possession, we have a player who could stand somewhere near Grigg or Houli or Foley and try and beat them one-on-one.

There is a time for man up, and we should have at least tried it at times today. Nothing else really worked.

That's the thing - its always evolving and structures only work with the cattle suit them. Adaption is the key and who knows, the future might bring back man on man footy.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
