So will it will look something like this:

FB: Garland - Frawley - Bartram

HB: Rivers - Sellar - Bennell

C: Jones - Bate - Trengove

HF: Howe - Green - Petterd

FF: Davey - Clark - Dunn

R: Jamar - Moloney - Sylvia

I: Blease - Joel Mac - McDonald - Martin - Tynan - Couch - McKenzie

Not a weak team, and with the inclusion of Tappy, Magner, Grimes and Watts for Round 1, we are looking to have a decent team.

With the exception of Clark this is the team from last year

Why does it look "decent" this year when it struggled last year

I do not know that any of your four possible inclusions are better than even money to get a game in the first round.

Magner has an injured finger that will see him at best the week before the first game

Tapscott and g\Grimes will only play part of a game this weekend at Casey

And I think Watts can look forward to 2-3 weeks at Casey Unless he puts in a blinder.

I know it is early in 2012 and it is good to be positive

So I hope you are right

I just think we couldn't have been any lower at that stage last year and we only got pipped. I'm not saying we've all of a sudden become world beaters, but i just think 'enough' has changed for us to convincingly beat PA.

Ok I agree except for the margin

Me 4 points

You 10+ goals

Better than average chance it will be 5 goals

I wonder what the chances are that we'll see Tynan in round 1. I love the look of him and think we'll see him at some point in 2012...perhaps not early on though.

What are people's thoughts?

Watts needs a chance to lift his confidence and I think he'll be able to do that at Casey. Good decision by Neeld.

Port's pre season form has been excellent this year, knocking off Freo and losing to WC by a goal.

Port would start favourites in this game and I expect them win by a few goals. Talk of winning by 10 goals is nonsense.

I think we will line up as per below, I have gone for the most defensive back 6, we need to lock down and stop teams scoring against us, the midfield picks itself and the forward line we have the speed on I would like to see both Davey and Blease in our starting forward 6 but I have a feeling either Petterd or McDonald will start with Davey on the bench.

Bartram Frawley Sellar

Garland Rivers MacDonald

Trengove McKenzie Sylvia

Blease Martin Howe

Davey Clark Green

Jamar Moloney Jones

Petterd Couch Bate McDonald

PS Cant wait to get Viney & spend those Scully picks

To be honest Dr Who I'm sick to death of "waiting" for draft picks to come along. I want the team on the park to start to bloody compete.

This team has been sitting on potential for 2 years and I know the change of coach may have slowed us a little but losses like that against the Hawks last weekend shouldn't still be happening. Anyone else feel that in most neutral supporters eyes Richmond have gone past us. Makes me sick

I'm really worried about this year to be honest. The start of 2011 I'd have said pushing for the 8 this year then definite finalists in 2012. I hope I'm wrong but I feel bottom 4 again. Maybe its the Hawks loss compounded by the Jurrah and FOJ issues but my opinion of the club is as low going into this season as it has been in the past 5 seasons.

Well said HB.

To think that Hardwick came out during the week and said that the Toiges should be ready to take on the big boys now makes me want to stab him (no offence meant). He's basically putting his whole team on notice, and I would not be surprised if they play accordingly. Us on the other hand, Watts has been put on notice...that's it.

The general public expect us to underperform, and why shouldn't they think that? We have no-one from within the Club talking the talk, because the big chance is that the players won't walk the walk.

I think people are also blind-sighted by these "Scully picks". I'm sick to death of hearing about the 2012 Superdraft. We have had 2 number 1 picks, a number 2 pick and a number 4 pick in the past 6 years. Trengove finished 5th in the B&F last year I think. Doesn't give us great confidence that we will use our "Scully Picks" on getting anything decent.

I did say similar things about Geelong back in about 2003/2004, and look what happened!

My feelings too HB

For probably similar reasons

Cannot remember feeling this flat at a start of a season even in the infamous 2008 / 9 years.

Seems the new FD and removal of our debt means nothing.

It cannot compensate for the feeling of dread approaching the start of 2012

Very Well said HB....The one good thing is that right now is not half way through the season.

Potential achieves nothing unless it is pushed as far as possible.

Thats defence is seriously turnover city. We might lock it down but we'll just give it back to them to have another try.

cale morton...makes another first round draft pick running around for casey...

Yeah what a waste and it's so silly that an injured player has to return through Casey.

Watts got dropped to Casey for a preseason game too. We obviously wasted a number one pick.

I remember hear Greg Duff, the guy from Champion Data (forget his name) say on SEN that Demon supporters need to be patient, just like the Cats circa 03/04. At the time i was positive with his comments. Other so called experts are also excited by our list. Maybe I'm suffering the Dee supporter curse, the expectation not to expect too much, to avoid disappointment. Coming from experiencing decades of heart ache. But I just don't see the talent in our early draft picks.

In a competitive team in the VFL, our young ones don't stand out either. They have good games but still can't dominate consistently. By the time the young one are ready we will have an issues in our ruck division. Jamar is getting on, Gawn knees may not hold up and the Cupboard is not stocked otherwise.

The club is always chasing their tales. Daniher did not have a backline, Daniher (late years) and Bailey did not have a forwardline. Now Neeld doesn't have a midfield.

It's a critical time for the club. The recruitment of the new recruitment guy is pivotal. Also, the development going forward is also pivotal. Its not too late for the current group. Players like Bate and Dunn have suffered from lack of development. Their talented guys who have been mis managed.

Having said this I ask question like, why has Jamar and Frawley excelled when others haven't? Why has Watts not learnt from Frawley in training, and toughened up? Etc

At the end of the day I'm still confused by the club direction!! But I do know we are still developing and I'm in for more pain. I don't trust the club to get it right (history tells me). But the changes in the FD make me hopeful at the same time.

As I said I'm confused and I'm sick of the emotional roller coaster ride, week to week. The club needs a Nike moment. JUST DO IT (this time)

I honestly think that squad looks slow. For every thoroughbred there are 2 clydesdales.

I love this comment because I think thats exactly what this "squad" is designed to do - form a base to build on. Form a workhorse base, no more "bruise free" footy.

Where the 2YO racehorses dont get a game on "breeding alone" they have to earn it. The 2YO's are not ruined & riddled with "bad habits" by the time they are 3YO.

Think most importantly signally our new game style, slow it down and play from clearance to clearance. Think we have moved into the "modern era".

This is almost EXACTLY how I'm currently feeling.

I had an email exchange with a mad and knowledgeable tigers supporter today - I said if I could get $5 on the tigers making the 8 that would be a good bet. He replied that I was basically smoking crack, should wait five weeks until they're 80-1 and that they're no chance whatsoever. Not sure what that says about us though.

You are focused on the symptoms you must treat the cause. I think we are addressing the cause - at long last.

Your comments although being brutally honest dont go to the source of the problem. They merely are a summary of the symptoms.

Sadly, I not surprised they garnished support around here. I'm convinced we are on the "road" to playing competitive modern day football, but the journey has just began. I just hope & pray many around here dont fall into the trap & start sounding like my kids "are we there yet?"

Re your Tigers comment, makes me laugh but for reasons I wont share around here. Tigers have come a long, long way over the last 3 years off-field. Deep down I hope it doesn't show on the field but I fear it might.

Why was Watts dropped and Fitzgerald rested!

From what I can see of the Team, they've All got Builds.

I reckon this how we are going forward. Play like Men.... If you don't have the Build to do it, Do It anyway. Or your Out!

I have heard we are the right path once or twice before

I am very very sorry for asking "are we there yet"

It is 48 long hard years that I have been on this trip

we must be driving to Mars.

25 man squad.

neeld indicated that this week would be pretty much the best 22. Guess his going with that + 3 emergencies.

Only 1 first Year player in the squad. I think thats a good reflection, (for the kid) thus far.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
