The Bulldogs only had to draw . I still remember the roar that came from the Collingwood social club when Footscray drew with Carlton . They had long memories .

Still , we've beaten that "mob" 15 times of the the last 16 times we've played them in finals . I let every Pie fan I come across know about it . Oh , and the fact they've only won 4 flags in the last 75 years .

Fair enough OD , but ................the people I know who follow Collingwood can dish it out and also take it back . It's mostly good natured banter . I think you've taken my comments a bit too seriously .

I must have expressed it poorly.

Just a bit of light hearted banter was intended.

I have a couple of very good friend who are members of Hawthorn

They never cease to stick it too me.

The next day on reflection I have to admit they get it 90% correct.

It is probably my vintage but a 1 point loss to Collingwood is worse than a 10 goal loss to Hawthorn.

I am not serious here but if we win one game in 2012 please god can it be on the QBW

Nah, I couldn't be bothered reflecting back 'that hard' on a footy forum.

If it was a MFC celebration of the Barassi days & the Admin of those times, then Yes, I would probably put more thought into those days. They got Us back into being a club again with a team.

Then we made Finals & EXciting times ahead.

With the Hawks it's totally different isn't it - A great model for any football team . And their fans aren't too bad - hard to hate 'em .

As you no doubt know , that uncompromising way they play is a John Kennedy thing . It continues to get passed down .

And just on that possible QB result , I'm with you 100% !

I'm struggling not to say 'what on earth are you smoking?'. So instead I'll be more circumspect and say 'In what way?'

And on the original topic of this thread, the key point about Barassi coming back to Melbourne was that it coincided with the club finally recognising that it needed to get professional (and I mean literally). if I remember correctly, the MFC split from the Melbourne Cricket Club because the MCC was stifling the football department by being too slow to make the key decisions a professional football club needs to make. Ironically, the two got back together recently. But at the time, the split was the right decision and allowed the football club to become more professional. I suspect more than anything the new-found professionalism instilled when Barassi joined lead to the club playing finals in 1987 for the first time in 23 years.

The MCC seemed as tho they wanted to punish us for daring to go it alone, by roping off the centre wicket area, so we couldn't use it to train thru the middle of the ground.

Then areas of goal to goal line were roped off at times.

No social facilities were given.

No effective space for a state of the art gymnasium. Only the 'run down' original facilities.

Finally they stopped us from training on the MCG altogether, & banished us to the Junction Oval for training, but only when the cricketers weren't using the facilities.

The MCC is responsible for a lot of our troubles, since the Mid 60's, & throughout our time at the Junction.
