Don McLardy woud wish it known that be prepared... We are about to assume a new mantel, that of being one of the BIG 5 in town

Demons aiming for High 5

Personally I couldnt care less where the others fall but WE should be back as a power, and good on the club for aiming for this.

We're back in town....our town....MELBOURNE !!

Go Dees !!

I thought this was a bit cringeworthy from McLardy.

While I agree with the ambition, to say we want to be one of the "big 5" along with Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond... it's a little clunky to give those 4 and ignore the on-field and off-field success of Geelong and Hawthorn.

It's great to have such an aim. But we have a very, very long way to go.

Especially bold coming from one of the bottom ranked Victorian teams who as little as 6 months ago were in complete disarray.

I'm have no problem aiming high though.

its not us who acknowledge the big 4...

I don't like this clunky attempt at asserting entitlement.

Especially based on the flimsy justification of our name alone.

The ambition is correct, but I don't think we won't have done much to deserve that place, until we actually get there.

I dont believe there is a big 4 anymore! Hawthorn & Geelong changed that years ago...

Possibly you have not thought to look at history...and our place in it. Maybe you are younger , and as the song says thats not your fault..

Some forget we were Football for a long time. We lost our way, we lost our verve and lost our right to claim the mantel. To want to resurrect our entitlement is in my mind commendable.

This game exists becauase we made it so. Its all part of the march back

Good on McLardy.

At the very least we are stoking a few fires. Putting ourselves out there and anteing up with the big boys.

As Oscar Wilde said ... "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".

Sounds like something Eddy McGuire would say. And no, we don't need an Eddy McGuire.

What ... a clever, tough-minded administrator who stops at nothing to help his club win premierships?

Eddie has been bloody good for his club, regardless of what we think of him....I will be be stoked if Don has the nous to stand tall knowing the FD will back him up with actions...i have kept that article....

I laugh at anyone who thinks Richmond's name belong with the powerhouse clubs. Jonny Pierik obviously hasn't paid any attention to the world of footy since 1990.

The powerhouse clubs in Victoria are Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn and Geelong.

If Richmond get on a roll supporters come from everywhere....they can still lay claim somehow.

No. A conflicted, loudmouth meddler who sticks his nose in everyone's business, makes idle threats and puts undue pressure on his first-year coaches.

Geelong? yeah they have won a few flags lately but wait till they drop a bit, so will their support, we are as low as we will be in these terms atm imo, when we rise so will everything MFC related ect

Hawthorn, lets count the Premierships, big clubs are more than 20 years they are forever, thats where we want to be.

Its about Building the CLUB, not the brand, it is the MFC

Almost agree. Carlton would have to be up there whether we like it or not.

No, I don't think so. In the last five years the state of their finances on the books has almost been as parlous as ours. The difference is they've had the Pratt money papering over the cracks, while ours were plain for all to see. I don't think they're as strong a club as they'll have you believe.

Five years ago they were ready to hand the keys to Princes Park back to the AFL. They have the ability to get once again be a top 4 club, but they're certainly a long way from that status now.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
