2012 Player Numbers

Featured Replies

i think its a 2010 jumper with an Iron on energy watch logo and Iron on numbers

Has the stars above the number.

Thanks for the link.

I thought as much.

For some reason I thought Denis Clark (Boner) was No.12 http://demonwiki.org/Denis+Clark

The mind slips the older you get.

Hi Chippy. I think Denis had 3 numbers..in this order 38 2 and then 17. http://demonwiki.org/Denis+Clark

You were right too Prof..thanks for the correction..despite my thoughts that he had played at some stage in the back pocket, I couldn't find that happening at all in the old Footy Records I researched last night..wing, centre and forward pocket/rover at various times..depending on the structure of the side at the time. The Footy Record link provided elsewhere on this site was very helpful. Cheers :)

jerermy howe was stiff not to get a lower number....

Would have prefered for Howe to get 19 and give Strauss 33

It's about what the player wants also, pretty sure Howe is happy with making something out of 38 (much like Davey has with 36).

Agree with Deez Nutz - the number doth not make the man; the man maketh the number.

Nothing wrong with a high number.

Who was that big Crown dude who wore 50 or maybe 52 throughout a successful career. And a fair few #1s and #2s don't get far

Stephen Tingay was numbr 52 i think when he started...Viney was quite high too. Tingay may have even been 57. Anyone know when he got the #2?

Agree also... not AFL, but I'm sure the #46 will mean a lot to people who love sport. The owner of that number is in a sport where the world champion is supposed to wear the #1 for the next season, yet this person refuses to part with the #46... I'm certain many of you know who I'm talking about, because his name is synonymous with that number.

There may be some more numbers available this time next year and Howe has only been here for a year.

He is such a prospect though...

Isn't it funny - I am really excited by Jurrah, Bail and Howe and they were all 20 when drafted. Nicholson aswell.

Looking forward to some more mature recruits (well 2 years matured...) in the RD.

It appears #31 won't be ready in time for next season

The dry-cleaners are having problems with some tricky stains

Evans, also a later non vanilla selection, might be a player too and happy with him in 32.

I still do not understand the fascination with numbers being low/high and special and important or whatever.

As far as I'm concerned, a player should come to the club, get a number that is available, and own that number for their career. Be it 1 or 50, that's their number. None of this changing number business, none of this 'let's give him 31 simply because he's good and we had a player who was good who also wore 31, logical connection there!' rubbish.

I'd have liked Nicholson to hold onto 49, make a career out of it, and then own the story of 49.

At the risk of being accused of sexually assaulting your post, I am not sure your first line fits with your overall premise.

Numbers are not important but they are important if they are not changed throughout a career?

I was a huge LOST fan - numbers are everything...

Jack Viney doesn't officially become a Melbourne player until next year's national draft but if he's given permission to play for the Casey Scorpions then perhaps he could be given a jumper number in waiting, say 23, which he could also wear in Casey games.

Pick up Clutterbuck, put him in #59.

Wonder if the 4 rookies are going to pick up at #47 and take 47, 49, 50 and 51?

Rookies given guernsey numbers

Here they are:

No what I was trying to say was that I don't see the link between a number and it's importance. As in, why is a number from 1-30 'better' than a number that is greater than 30, for example?

You know I'm a LOST fan too - numbers are not everything.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
