The Next Decade; Would you take this if it happened?

After a footy card game with the kids, I shuffled the pack of cards( each AFL team had 4 cards)and dealt out 10 cards which was to determine the premiers for the next 10 years.

Here's what happened.

2012 Premiers HAWTHORN ( Good chance I would reckon)

2013 COLLINGWOOD( Good chance as well)

2014 MELBOURNE( Hopefully, a distinct possibility)

2015 ADELAIDE ( Maybe it could happen)

2016 MELBOURNE( Don't know what happened in 2015)

2017 WEST COAST

2018 COLLINGWOOD( Again! Grr, stupid cards)

2019 FREMANTLE ( May happen eventually)

2020 RICHMOND( Its been a long time coming Tigers!)

2021 NORTH MELBOURNE ( As above).

So there you are as the cards call it. Would you take it? I certainly would.

In a Nonosecond ! 2014 and then 2016 - that's getting into that dynasty area ! 2015 was obviously a Premiership hangover - nice problem to have !

Maybe you need cards with the Suns, and GWS in them

Since we haven't won in 47 years, I think the majority of Demons supporters are like-minded in that they just want to see one premiership in their lifetime. Anything more than that is a bonus.

According to the officlal AFL "omen" rules, half the deck has to be Suns & Giants cards!

I'm not greedy.

I'll take one, followed by another and another and................another.

I saw 1959, 1960 & 1964 all whilst at school.

I haven't seen one since I started working.

I have now retired so bring it on.

Wouldn't take it. Let nothing limit us this decade. Firmly believe, as my sig suggests, we can win at least three of the buggers over the next nine years.

Lets just get the monkey off the back with 1 before we starting talking multiples.

yes badly

No, it wouldn't be right for them to be winning a premiership in their first 10 years. Let them wait their turn just like us and the Bulldogs. BTW, I made another shuffle of the remaining cards and the Demons are due again for yet another premiership in 2023! That's 3 in 15 years. Won't deal out any more as there is only ONE Demon left in the pack.

I will be happy with 5 flags in the next decade. That will take our tally to 17. Fcuk the Bulldogs they owe us one.

I would take one, just freakin one!!!!!

A dynasty requires at least 3 raise your expectations man!!

Wasn't so long ago St.Kilda were sure they were starting a dynasty aswell .

Lets just start with 1.

St.Fail will never start a dynasty!!

I'd take two. Bird in hand..!

Seriously, no premiership since the 60s and you wouldn't take a guarantee of two premierships in the next 10 years? Bizarre.

Each team had 4 cards - 18 x 4 = 72. Big deck?

No only 16 x4= 64. No Suns or GWS in this Deck. AFL card game about four years old.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • POSTGAME: Essendon

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
