Watts given a kick up the ...

Let's not forget that Northern Premier League Division One South is division 8 in the English system.

It'd be difficult to work out the equivalent in footy terms, but possibly the TAC cup?

But yes. We are not the oldest.

I also believe that some Rugby Union clubs in the UK are older than us, read it somewhere, dont know what grade they currently compete at either but remember it because people always say "we are the oldest club in the world" but these were listed as older, i remember about 6-8 i believe.

will google it..

Malthouse had the hard discussion with Swan in 2003....and there are plenty of hard discussions MFC needs ot have.

In the case of Malthouse it took 8 yrs for him to brief the papers.

In comparison, and in my opinion, Neeld seems like he can't wait to get to a journo and tell them how hard assed he is

The off season articles over the past few seasons were about how the talented kids were going to to take the team forward. Nothing was ever said about how hard they would actually have to work to actualize the talent into performance.

I don't see the plethora of articles as being about how hard-a*sed Neeld is, as much as about the reality of what it takes to be successful in this competition - something this club hasn't been for 47 years.

Steely eyes ,red hair , earnest manner, straight forward .Reminds me a little of Norm Smith .Lets hope he can do half as well as Norm .

Was thinking exactly the same "Biffo"

Couldn't find anything negative being said about JW or any others, just setting challenges, now ALL no it is up to themselves, every time they train, play games or represent the club they challenge themselves and team mates 2b the best they can...........it's a bit scary going into unchartered waters, but that fear can change to plenty of adrenaline.........Geez just so many good things happening with our DEE's 4 an off season.

I was already replying so I missed this one but I'll explain my thoughts.

In the article "Lift your game,..." in the HS there are 4-6 paragraphs of Neeld stressing Watts needs to get over being on the Footy Show and doing Energy Watch commercials and get to know his training staff. Reading it became increasingly obvious that he was suggesting Watts' training ethic is not good enough. He than insinuates that '40 game players' shouldn't be doing all these commitments.

JW isn't a 40 game player. He's a 40 game player 1st pick.

Rohan Bail is a 40 game player was Neeld going to come out and say the same about him. Look probably not. Neeld has used big name targets to appear to be the big bag ogre coach. Everyone loves it so it seems to be doing something good around the club but I just hope he knows where to draw the line that's all.

If you read Red Fox it is clear that this was one of Norm Smith's favourite party tricks; spraying players he knew could take it and would therefore inspire lesser types to greater efforts. He did it on the eve of the '64 grand final, possibly Adams was one of the players who was bog.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
