i believe he was on SEN Breakfast this morning.

Did anyone hear him?

Caught some of it.

Told the story about going to Brisbane to meet Mitch Clark, told how he can't endorse anyone into the leadership group without seeing their behaviours over pre-season, a decision will be made in March, Brad Green was accepting of this and signed his new contract the day after being told.

The boys are at Princess Park this morning doing time trials, Mark expects players who want to play in the midfield to be elite runners and expects them to do 10minute lows or better. Harford said when he was at Carlton Andrew walker ran a 10:20 or so.

Missed a chunk in the middle where I think he was talking about the dynamics between the coaching staff, but not sure.

Thanks for that Kev.

Time trials at Princess Park - that's a new one at Melbourne I think (we've usually done the tan).

I agree you need a strong tank to go midfield but where does that leave young Sammy Blease who, by all accounts, struggled with his running on Monday in repeat 400s?

Still, I seem to recall that two years ago Brock McLean blew most of his Carlton teammates away with his first timetrial at Princess Park and look at him now.

He'll get fitter and his lung capacity will increase in future years, but until then he will play on a HBF...

Blease apparently didn't come back in the best of shape, got a blasting from a few of the coaches.

The audio is up on SEN in two parts - http://www.sen.com.a...d-Part-One/3417

The part is missed was the expectations he and the rest of the coaching staff have of the players etc....

Thanks for the link.

I'm very impressed with him. Seems to see himself as the boss, and not trying to fit in with the players. Hopefully he gets results.

What distance is the time trial over? Sounds like 3km by the expected times.

He also spoke about the coaches spending a bit of time together to know how each other ticks (mentioned knowing Leigh Brown fairly well due to the Collingwood days).

I thought he spoke really well, beyond the first day announcement interviews this is the first time I've had a chance to have a good listen to him, he's completely comfortable

in the media, speaks plainly and openly without resorting to cliches and to me just spoke well.

The SEN guys after the interview also mentioned how impressive he was.

For some reason I can't stand Andrew Gaze and just have to turn over the station whenever he's on. I'm not sure if anyone can be more painful than listening to Tim Watson and "You blllllokes" Andrew Maher first thing in the morning but he certainly gives them a run for their money.

To put 3200 metres in 10 minutes into (a kind of) perspective, the 3000 metres world record is 7 minutes 20 seconds set 15 years ago.

And to think that Dunaden did it in 3min20 secs.

Spoken like a true Dees supporter WJ - nothing like having the ability to make a sow's ear out of a silk purse :-)

Dunaden has twice as many legs and did the distance in about half the time. #FootyMaths (an arcane and esoteric science only a few of us are privileged to understand) says that sounds about right.

He may have some annoying ticks but console yourself in the knowledge that he is the nicest bloke you could meet.

Are you suggesting Dunaden would make a good midfielder?

Personally I think he would only be good in a straight line, no agility. Definitely a KPB

Plus horsepower.

To be precise less than half the time. In fact, one third of the time for the 3200m compared to today's footballers. And on a mostly dead track to boot !

Can extend himself once the whip is cracked. Tends to have the blinkers on, so essentially poor peripheral vision. Loves the body to body competition in the going.

Agree KPB who can break lines.

Hiya W_J

I posted this on Ology after viewing the first training run. It may be of interest to you and others.

##########################################

Sam looked buggered and without any real endurance. The drill was repetitive 300m-ish runs at good solid pace with a short 100m-ish recovery stroll/walk then off again. Sam needs to put a lot of k's into those legs!!

The fastest group, Jones, Bail & Maloney, were doing it in 1 min 4 secs. The group Sam was in did 1 min 14 with Sam repetitively doing it in 1 min 25 ish. We timed them a couple of times. There was another group that we didn't time cos of the staggered starts.

The purpose of the run seemed to be sort the fit from the not so fit. It did it's job it seemed.

Sorry I was a day out -however missed the interview as well.

What i have liked so far is his unapologetic tone ( which is made easier since we havent played a game).

He has been very black and white on what is and isnt acceptable. I like that straight talk

We have enough show ponies on our list, so it might be good to get a thoroughbred in to keep them on their toes.

From memory, Peter Walsh was the closest thing to a stallion that we've had on our list for some time. I believe that's where he earnt the nickname "Whopper".
