Now for the crumbing pacy small forward

Featured Replies

Well sounds like we've got a few options then - dare we say it - " A nice problem to have ! "

With davey down forward he will not be a main target and could easily kick 40+ goals. But it depends if Neeld wants him down back .If Jetta and Aussie can find form then I can see davey kicking goals again.

Wonder if Neeld likes Dick.

Sorry.

Seriously, Brad Dick, Collingwood. Out of contract and Toovey has just signed. They've got to move one or two on you'd think. Any fans of his out there? Does he only play 2 good games a year and usually against us?

Thought he was going to retire - chronic injuries (shoulders?)

I don't reckon we take Dick.

Work on the blokes we have and draft in a couple more specialists to put pressure on and make better players of all of them.

Pretty sure he did his ACL during the year so won't be able to play till mid year.... Looks like being cut from the pies

Jetta - this kid is naturally hard at it also provides tackling pressure, which along with Petterd and Howe providing same helps us implement the press and defensive pressure in the forward zone once Clark, Watts and rotating Jamar bring the ball to gron

Bennell is also an option the kid needs to realise the talent he has

Mission might change it back if thats how Neeld wants the Daveytrain

Misson (not) Impossible

*Sorry had to

I'm going to back in Bennell.

He might not be the permanent FP, but he'll be a regular in our 22.

What will he be?

If he's floating around between back and forward doing SFA and still in our 22 I'll scream. It's not much, but it's a horrible scream.

I hope he does become the permanent FP, has the tools, but I just have little faith in him.

Bennell is small back for me - good defensively, line breaking run and a nice kick - he did some great work down there last year.

Davey, Wonna and Lawrence are the candidates for crumbing forward currently on the list - its a tough role but absolutely vital, especially in big finals - tougher and even more vital. Jurrah, Howe, Sylvia and Watts are all threats when the ball hits the deck too - there's going to be some fun times ahead.

Wonna is the one we need to mature. He has the strength and the presence to do the Job, If only he would put his head down and do it.

He has the body to be able to shrug the tackler, and steady to goal.

Common Wonna, don't let it all slip away.

Could Dan Nicholson fill this role? Quick, strong fitness base so could run defenders around all day, he's hard at it so we know he'll run people down and do the defensive things required of a crumbling forward these days.

Question is does he have any goal sense and what's his set shot like? Could be something to trial in pre-season perhaps.

IMONicholson is too valuable as a quick strong pressurising defender to shift forward, but I guess it depends a bit on the 'role' Neeld has in mind for the likes of Tapscott and Grimes - if they are to be used as mids then Nicho definitely will be needed in defence at some stage.

Personally, I would push for Aaron to be re-invented as the small crumber, and / or Jetta who seems to like tackling and applying pressure: not sure about his goal sense however.

Gibson Turner from NT Thunder is my choice if we were to look at a small forward from the draft. Has a great highlights reel. He and Jurrah would cause a lot of headaches for opposition backs.

How about this Anthony Tipungwuti guy from the Tiwis.

Was going to suggest this guy....

Is abit/ ALOT Wonnaameirri 2.0 which will be a nice release for those who liked Wonna

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
