At the start of the year I hooked up my xbox to recieve Foxtel for the football. However, Foxtel cancelled live games to be shown over xbox streaming due to the AFL's request. The AFL and Foxtel have now agreed to show up to 8 games live through xboxlive next year..

I went with Foxtel and am currently paying $74 per month (went with HD) to watch AFL.

With the xbox package you will pay $50 per year for xbox GOLD, plus approx $20 per month for AFL (no lock in contracts), plus your bandwidth (this can be switched off at QTR / HALF time to save). So at a total of $130 per year + bandwidth, V's Foxtel $888 (min of 12 month subscription). A hell of a big saving, if like me, you just want to watch AFL on Foxtel.

My questions though:

Did anyone actually watch any kind of fast ball moving sport through the xbox this year?

What was the quality like? Any lag? I understand you can switch between picture definitions, how does the HD through xbox compare to the HD picture through foxtel? What internet speeds do you need?

Any more info would be great.

What sort of connection do you need and how much bandwidth does it chew through per game are also questions that need to be answered. If you have to get BigPond Cable to be able to watch a game in decent quality you will go through your monthly allowance in half a game.

I have it hooked up, but didn't catch any sport. It chews approx 600mb per hour in HD. I think you have three definition settings to choose from.

Dont forget you can switch your connection off during breaks in the game. So 2hr game = 1.2gig approx. Not bad if your watching/recording the dee's every week.

I have 3G wireless and it runs a Foxtel movie fine through xbox, I am just curious what sport looks like streaming through xbox. I found some games this year on FOXSPORTS HD were terrible to watch (pixelated and laggy) and at $1000 per year!

Not that it is related to X BOX but i was thinking that foxtel is going to be required next season with so many games being played on it.... spos you get soccer EPL if that interests you, i think fox was 50 a month or something for basic and sport when i looked, not certain though

Also considering getting the basic package + the football. The basic package is about $43 per month, plus $18 for the additional sports channels. That said, $61 per month adds up over a year!

Surely you'll get your money's worth watching Doggy Detectives and Help! My Arms Exploded! on the Lifestyle Channel.

Never heard of those tv shows, but I love them already!

However, I think it's best that I don't ever watch them and stick with the images in my head.

Glorious.

I have foxtel on xbox and watched a replay of the gf on it the other day. It was fine to watch. Not HD, but normal foxtel without the HD box is less than standard def anyways. For the price, its an amazing deal.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
