Mark Neeld

Recommended Posts

Neeld would probably be my favourite outside of Malthouse atm, close pegging with Burns but slightly ahead, I think he has a strong claim to the success of Collingwoods Defense and Midfield, and has been credited with much of Collingwoods "press" from what i can take in

He is not a top line senior coach but i think he is pretty clearly "the best of the rest"

That is pretty much how I feel. Would like to see a Neil Craig type appointed to a Senior Assistant type of role also.

Well that would answer my "If not Mick then who? " lol

Seems an interesting choice.

If Neeld I wonder who he'd pick as assistants.

its getting interesting ( well even more so ..lol )

With Mick's recent statement that he feels the Demons will make the finals next year depending on the coach, and "i'll be watching with interest from the sidelines", with a wry smile and a wink, this makes complete sense as our likely option.

If there is any such thing as sense in the AFL anymore lol. What a circus!

Not saying i'm happy with it if it does come to fruition though. Prefer experience. Unfortunately the final "apparently available" experience option has landed in Perth.

Not that these are the only two possibilities, but I'm thinking Neil Craig as Senior Assistant given that Gazza aint a big fan of Eade apparently.

However, I'd be very surprised if this came to light in an official sense before next week, given all the media hype and focus surrounding the Lyon to Freo issue and elimination finals this weekend.

Lets all be honest, we can only speculate on what we are being fed....

2 days ago its was Ross Lyon

Last night Barrett and Thomas reported it was going to be Burns and Craig combo

Today it is Neeld being close to signing ect....

Who is left? is this more smoke and mirrors or not, seems that nothing has been leaked form MFC so far, well nothing that they didnt want to be leaked, i am really at the stage where i can talk about all this and say this and that but until the club makes a statement i will not be banking a thing

Weeks 1-3 MFC thinking about the process

Weeks 3-5 Clarkson offered Huge deal in media

Weeks 5-6 Lyon offered huge deal through the media ect

Weeks 6-7 Neeld???? *current

Weeks 7-8 Burns???? * next week

Week 9 *Grand final over???? just seems played out and nobody has any real clue to me

Its not often the senior journalist at a paper sticks his neck on the line and says 'this person is going to be the coach'.

I give his hunches more clout than the ambulance chasing, rubbish bin hiding journos of the ilk of Barrett and Hutchison.

Still, time will tell!

God, I hope so.

I've warmed to other options, but he's been my number 1 realistic option since Bailey was relieved of the role.

Craig as a senior assistant would be icing on the cake.

Hell yes. With Pendlebury saying Neeld is one of the reasons he and Thomas have upped there game in the last 2 years (whilst he has been in charge of the midfield) is great with Pendlebury coming out of contract next year... Could help us lure a might fine captain.

Spot on JT they are all guessing.

Until some one is appointed it is still MM for me.

Any one else I will believe when the MFC announce it.

In all of this the MFC have said nothing no leaks nothing.

I like their style for a change.

Malthouse's right hand man. A "mini" Mick could be a great move.

He is credited with a lot of the defensive press work under Mick.

So if it aint Mick then this is a good choice.

I hope he has the balls to put a rocket through the whole club to bring up the standard in all areas.

It will be crucial to know who he chooses as assistants if this becomes fact.

With the Aints now in the race we have to be very strong now.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
