Give him the No.1.

Oh man, don't do that.

Number 1 has been a bit of a curse over the last few years...

HF Green Watts Petterd

F Howe Clarke Jurrah

get excited

Would be fair to say that MFC having had a big landing like this since Kelvin Templeton and Peter Moore in the early 80's?

Hard to remember us luring such a player in the past.

This is big news. And I can't wait to see Mitch in the Red & Blue!

Super Excited!

Go Dees!

Gippy

well considering that he and moloney are the only two players on our list that we have traded for

Now that is how you identify a target, and go get it in an aggressive manner. Something we've been lacking for a while.

During the preseason competition my father and went , as I am sure plenty of you did, to the practice match against Brisbane at VISY Park. I must admit to being ignorant of Clark until that day, but I was struck by this agile tall man who seemed to just be everywhere. He was noticeably strong overhead and just seemed to brush our defence aside, it was terribly frustrating to watch as an opposition supporter. I'm not sure what his stats were that day but he impacted upon the game enormously. I'm stoked he's now playing for us and that the club has gone out on a limb to land a 'big fish' and that motivations of the player aside, his destination is the MFC.

Great get. Go you bloody Demons!

Unbelievable.

Great get for pick 12 in a weak draft but can't help but be concerned with the amount we'll be paying him considering he already knocked back an 'outstanding' offer not 24 hours ago...

Still, gotta admire the club's audacity in going out and getting their man.

Well played Dees.

WOW!

"Agreement has been reached tonight to trade Brisbane player Mitch Clarke to @melbournefc for selection 12 in the 2011 National Draft." - MFC twitter

Wow!

Did not see this coming! If this is all confirmed and agreed apon, we have done extremely well. I mean all indications were that he had too strong a desire to go home, maybe his family stepped in and said this was too good a opportunity?

10/10 marks to our recruiting staff if they've pulled this off!

Just glad to land a big name who we'll get six or seven years out of. If it doesn't work out at least we'll have paid the big money in the next couple of years. Excited but in true MFC fashion still anxious.

Well let us all hope that in two years time MFC will become THE place to be with guys willing to accept pay cuts just to stay.

I don't really worry about salary cap issues because StK has them but they nearly won two flags getting those problems...

But I hear what you are saying.

I would like to think Trengove will be the kind of kid that others are drawn to. And he has bought into the future of the club in a big way.

I think the Saints salary issues are coming to a head now because they are starting to see that the "Premiership window" is closing, or indeed has closed, so they had better set up their retirement asap.

There will be a few Demonlanders who will wake up surprised and happy...

But anxious and certain that at some point it will all fall apart...

I love being a Melbourne supporter!

LOL.... WTF?????!!!!!!

How did this happen?

This is awesome news! Clark is a gun.

So is he our new FF. Please tell me his the FF now. Be FF. Jamar and Martin to do the ruck stuff, Clark can be the big KPF we have been screaming for!

Joyous occasion fo an already liquored up young lass!

He isn't being paid the highest salary at the club to be a backup ruck...

how did Freo miss out? Channel 10 ran a story confirming he signed with the dockers, obviously they were just assuming. Fail!

I thought he had a sick family or Grandma and wanted to return home? Ahhh the lure of the mighty dollar! :P

Happy to hear that GWS made him a massive offer and he declined.

I wonder what "he who can't be named" think about the professionalism of our club now. I wonder if he would like to be part of it now? LOL hate to be stuck in Blacktown!

edit actually remembered that if Brisbane didn't accept Freo's offer and he didn't want to come he would have had to go to draft- therefore he would have ended up in Black Town so he come to us. Yipee

Travis Johnstone and pick 12 to Brisbane for Grimes and Clark.

We've done well out of Brisbane! :)

A great day for MFC.

Losing Scully was the best thing that ever happened to us.

Took Neeld when a lot of clubs wanted him...Took Craig when high profile clubs wanted him....Took Misson from a high profile team....And now poach a player with great potential, size, athleticism, goal sense, marking ability..

Our forward line looks impressive now...

Is 600k probably front loaded that steep a price? This just isn't superstar money, well done dees. The point about comparison with other successful clubs, namely the gf participants just doesn't make sense. Let's worry about pay cuts once we are a team that players WILL take a discount to come to us

I'm loving this so much.

Also, to those who think that this means bad news for Martin, think again.

Jamar is our no. 1 ruck. Martin is no. 2. Clark is our FF. He doesn't have to ruck, which I would guess excites him, as he never, to me, seemed as good in the ruck as he did at FF. Clark plays FF for us. We leave him there to play the role that no one has played properly for us in years. Now Watts, Green and Jurrah have someone big and strong to take the pressure off them, whilst Martin can float around there if need be as he rucks.

This is a big move for this club, it fills a positional hole that we have had gaping for years. And at a reasonable price. Win, MFC, win.

The contract will be heavily front loaded. Its like saying the gws player is on 2m every year where he is only on it for the first year.

Great get, we had the money to spend, we had pick 12 in a weak draft and went about it in a great manner!

Now should target caddy (nickname the future i believe) for our scully compo pick(s), he will be well worth it!

YES!

Don't care that we might be paying overs wage-wise. $3.2mil over 4 years (based on what's floating around) is $800kpa, OR down around that $600k mark with a front load in 2012. We've already got huge cap issues with being too low, so I'll bet we'll just throw money at Clark to drag it down.

Great get Melbourne, very well done, I sleep a pleased man tonight!

Mark Robinson tweeted that he hopes we aren't paying him too much...

What does it matter when we had a $600k offer knocked back by a certain someone a few weeks ago.

Gotta pay someone.

Exactly.

Huge get for Dees. Pick 12 this year, that's an absolute bargain too, given what we're getting.

IMO, he's going to go forward all year, freeing Watts and Jurrah to roam, along with Ricky Bobby. Steph and Jamar to remain in the ruck.

Massive, massive signing... for 2012 in particular, which was looking like a pretty crappy year.

Have heard some negatives surrounding past injuries... but I'll wait and see how it ends up.

This and Neil Craig. Fantastic aggressive recruitment demons. 186's silver lining.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
