Lyon's probably getting a few bars of that in his show bag too!

Maybe we should recall Diamond Jo! Our new sub-committee member

Has nothing to do with it, he went behind everyone's back, even his own manager's and they have sacked him, he is going to get 7.5 mil over 5 years, we could not match that. Its only about money not what club or who has the better list its $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$dollars

Unlikely that we will ever know the full story, but I agree that the dollars would be a huge part of the equation. On the other hand, Lyon is a self-professed career coach, and imo the strength of Freo's list would have been a critical part of his consideration.

Wrong.

In 2010, they rose from 14th to 6th.

In 2011 they were crippled by injuries and finished outside the 8. They were better than that.

Lyon approaches them and arranges a deal to coach them for 5 years after saying the Saints are at the end of an era.

If you think it is just the momey. Hmmm think again.

We shall see....

Over-rated, under-performers.

They were at near full strength when we belted them by 16 goals too. Still can't win on the road either..

I Agree WYL and have stated this in previous posts too.

Hope we are right.

Just thought I'd correct your typo here WJ. I believe you missed the word "no" in between "of" and "integrity".

But he approached them first, so how could it be all about $$$$$ He didn't know what they would offer, he just knew he wanted to go there.

Move on posters - time for MFC to choose from one of the good assistants out there looking for the opportunity to step up.

Ha...I almost spilt my tea....

Have we actually interviewed anyone?? After a week like this I havent got a clue whats going on?....Maybe its gonna be Gary himself!!

Just heard on SEN that RL was even able to name his amount to stay at St Kilda. He also walked into a board meeting, told them he was leaving and then walked out, leaving for Perth.

I am not a lawyer far from it but if RL had a contract for 2012.

Couldn't the saints sue him?

Ouch. This whole thing has a real cinematic criminal mastermind feel to it.

I would guess so. He is supposed to give three months notice to terminate. Obviously he will forfeit all monies owed, but after that, I don't know.

Reported widely to have a nice 'get out ' clause. Which it seems worked a treat...lol

This guy is mercenary.. to the max.; blindsided everyone ....except Freo of course .

Why do I have a funny feeling one GL got wind of it. Good smokescreen.

Don't agree with that one BB he looked just as surprised as everyone else.

I have no respect for this guy!

Basically chased the $$$

His own mgt team have walked away from him!

Did the saints window just slam shut?

Or was it just an ill wind blowing down the corridor?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
