How is Fevola a list-clogger though? He would be our starting Full Forward every week? It's not like he is going to get drafted and then just play at Casey week in-week out! Everyone says he will be gone in 2-3 seasons and it isn't worth it... but why couldn't he do a Barry Hall or Alistair Lynch and play until he is 35-36 if he is good enough? If he gets to 32-33 and is overtaken by Fitzpatrick or Cook, then say thanks and send him on his way. That is best case scenario anyway, because it means they are both as good as we'd hoped they would be... but if God forbid they turn out to be list-cloggers, at least we have Fevola to fill the gap until we can develop someone else. We could do much worse!

Well, considering we have had list cloggers for years and years, I would be willing to throw Fev a lifeline and

give him a pre-season to see what shape he could get himself into. I don't know why you, or anyone else that barracks

for this club would be against that idea.

This club needs to take a flippin' risk right about now I'm thinking. As I have said in my OP however, giving him a

pre-season is no risk at all.

And on the Bate, Dunn and Newton issue. We have no idea whether any of them will be given the flick and given

Melbourne's track record with this kind of thing, I can see us keeping them.

I haven't heard of Fev getting in trouble at all this year. His rehab is a positive step in the right direction. As many of the pro-Fev supports are saying; give him a 2 year contract with clauses that terminate his contract in the case of any misdeamenour. At the moment we have no big bodied forward, with experience, or leadership. Atleast onfield Fev can lead by example and take the pressure of the younger forwards.

That is true to a point, but there is the flipside in that he could get us into finals contention and that would provide invaluable experience to the younger less experienced players on the list.

Fev has proven to be toxic to two AFL clubs now and let's be honest, he never really set the stage on fire at the Lions before it all started to fall apart again.

Melbourne does not the media coverage/circus that would surround Fevola if he returned to AFL ranks.

He might be able to kick a goal but when it's all said and done, he's an absolute dead-sh*t that would add no long term value to the club. As other posters have commented, we have to move forward with the potential shown from our draftee's, not a bloody has-been like Fev.

You'd have to be kidding- we'd go absolutely backwards..that is our issue this year.. we need proven leaders..and need to recruit at least one this next draft..look at what Bock has done at the Suns this year..we need a some experienced senior leaders..at the helm..and some will come up..Fevola would be an ideal leader in the forward line..would release Green to the guts or wing.We are right for experience in defence.Fevola would be worth 5 goals a match himself kicking 60 and giving leadership and experience to the other forwards.

Experience in the forward line such as..

HF: Petterd (49 games) Watts (37) HOWE(10)

FF: Wonaeamirri (31) Fevola(204) JURRAH (33)

IMO- it is a no brainer in giving him a go..he'd certainly be in my team..

In terms of leadership I'm unsure that there is a backwards from where we currently are.

Proven leaders would be nice, but they come at a cost. They rarely move clubs at all, and when they do, they require heaven and earth to be moved in the process. The next best option is to fast track the babies we have in to leaders. The only other option - and the worst option - is to maintain the status quo and have the same mob lead us next year.

Edit: Not that I'd consider Fevola leadership...

Personally I think the idea was right, but the wording was wrong.

Not so much a burden, but I think his attitude could have a detrimental effect on the younger players.

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people share it.

There's pros & cons on both sides of the fence but for me I reckon the pros out weight the cons.

From all reports he's been really well behaved and a great influence down at Casey, and I don't see why we shouldn't take a punt. Neither Cook or Fitzpatrick will be ready to hold down FF for us next year but will have have the position open at Casey for them to develop as Fev would no longer be there.

Green can always move to half back where I reckon he could play a Nick Maxwell type role with good effect. Would mean we may have Jurrah & Howe battling it out for 1 sport but competition is good! Also once injuries come into it I have no doubt they'll both get a lot of games still.

We're always complaining that Melbourne aren't bold enough. Well what could be more bold then two huge signings in the off season. Malthouse as coach and Fev taken with our 3rd or 4th pick in teh draft!
