We are never going to win premierships if Bate and Dunn are a core part of our attacking zone.

Harsh, but true.

We have to stop falling into these traps, the sames one that left us with the most horrible. aging, useless list in 2007 (and from which we are still trying to recover).

Bate doesn't really cut it at the top level, he tries hard but has glaring deficiencies that will not change. Time to move him on. I'll be disappointed if we don't seek a trade for him at season's end. Same goes for Dunn and Warnock.

Agree.

Yeah you're right .

Chuck out all the blue-collars so we're left with a bunch of overpaid 19 year olds .

Don't need fighters-just gifted talent with no experience.

We'll just rate everyone on what they did as a schoolboy and ignore they progress of our 25 year olds .

Can you imagine how hard it would be to play half-forward for Melbourne for the past 5 years?

Wait till Bate and Dunn get some delivery .

Judge them on their last game ,not their inability to kick on the wrong side of their body ,which is a common fault in most players now days .

Bate took 8 (contested) marks .

Dunn played better than Gysberts ,Bennell ,Garland ,Frawley and many others .

Bate was top six for mine.

One more year ( which they have on their contract anyway)

Tired of sending twiglets out that only look good in space.

Unfortunately ,it's not an under 23 comp or we'd have the flag sewn up .

But Gary Lyon said that Bate could be a top 50 AFL player.....

He must be right?

Right....?

Why not .If he gets a chance at this youth crazed club he could be anything .

Agreed.

In the end, Bate and Dunn are limited footballers who are not good enough, and for that alone, should not be playing.

Same goes for Warnock, Newton and Maric.

Dunn sent a magnificent long pass to Green during the 2 Quarter...absolute Bullet, wasn't his fault he couldn't grab it.

Lynden has defficiencies, but he is has a magnificent kick on him

I remember what you're talking about. Dunn took too long to get the ball off to Green, because he took a bounce and lowered his eyes for 1 - 2 secs. The gap between Green and Gibson had closed by then. So yes he has a nice kick, but there in the same play were his biggest strength and one of his deficiencies. The fact of the matter is, he has played enough games to prove he's not up to it, and I reckon only 2 - 4 sides in the comp would be interested in him being on their list.

But he has had many chances...?

I can't tell if your comment was sarcastic or not.

Goddam digital communication.

I'm a big fan of Bates Rastaman .

No sarcasm here about him .

It may sound crazy but every premiership team has a red head in it that everyone says is no good .

It's fact.

HAHA.

That's why Hawthorn picked up Cheney. They knew a redhead was their missing ingredient. Why do they pay list managers so much when they could just pick up a crap redhead?

Posted

If Cook can take a contested mark and Bate has a bad match then drop him .

If you dare to go against redhead theory .

I wouldn't be shocked to see Bate on the list at the end of the year...

But at the same time, he's kind of in a Newton position, where we need to maintain a few talls in the twos, as a get out of jail...

Hell. Martin came out of nowhere this year. Bate showed a lot more than him early on, and is actually younger. Could happen. I'm just not expecting much.

Geez you are a hard man!! Are you a coach? I am well aware of Lynden's down side, but there are many good things he does that are not rewarded. Sad really.

No seriously, I don't think I'm hard at all.

The fact is, most times Hawks had a run on to advantage, they ended up kicking to advantage and getting a result. Green had 10m on Gibson, but at the time Dunn kicked it, he had 1m on him because he was getting very close to the goalsquare. I actually think Dunn held on to the ball because he was half thinking about taking a shot, and it was a poor outcome for the advantage we had.

The whole Bate and Dunn thing is just scapegoating .

We need a good list of 30 AFL hardened dudes before we'll get OUR flag back .

Are Maric ,Evans ,Jetta ,Bennell ,Spencer ,Blease worthy of staying ahead of Dunn and Bate?

If we keep cutting guys in the 60-100 games area then we'll just watch them go on to flags at other clubs while we continue the hopeful but frustrating re-build.

we need to hold them together ,not trade everyone .

Agree with Dunn, Newton, Maric.

Warnock is a solid citizen but ultimately a back up.

Bate has had a horror 12 months of poor form. Defin. not a core player but imo will be a good 16-22/role player who will prove damaging in a good side.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
