I hate to do it but I must be serious for once.

Today I had the pleasure of visiting two Islamic Indonesian families. One was an older couple who had their daughter , husband and three kids living with them The other were a younger couple with 3 kids who had developed an agricultural business from scratch .

I visited them because I know a relative in Australia.

Their hospitality was warm and generous. We discussed ( with some language limitations) a variety of topics. like us they aspire to a good life for themselves and a better one for their children.

They practise their religion but were unconcerned by my lack of it. They were appalled by recent events in the world. I have Been to Indonesia a number of times and find this attitude to be typical.

I just wish more people had the opportunity to see everyday Indonesian people in their own home

I've invited them to my home several times but taking off the shoes, not drinking, not eating the pork roast, not showing interest in any of my female friends ,not having many of the same interests as myself in the world generally,I find them rather dull.

It is every day people who abuse Muslim women on Melbourne trains. It is everyday people who swear at and vilify islander bus drivers. I am not naive to the reality of politics. My point is if every day people were a little more understanding to the fact that, if one looks, one will find common aims, desires and beliefs then they may be slower to stereotype.

]Nah,he's just doing what those 48ish woman do after visiting bali, they become all "spiritual" and fluffy.

Until the next all you can guzzle bar appears.[/quote

You are correct on one point Jizz- I did guzzle beyond reasonable limits last night and an only just emerging from the fog.

Actually it was a warung and the grizzled old girl who ran it had a profitable sideline. Young guys would choose a bottled alcoholic drink which would then be dispensed into a soft drink bottle. They then head off on their motor bikes.

How is the Arak.Nasty hangover but can be worse if the ethanol content is high they tell me.

I didn't know where to put this but I just heard on Perth seven news that Colin Sylvia has been put on notice from Freo because of the condition he has come back in from holidays.

They are not happy with this skin fold numbers.

Glad his not our problem anymore.

Slow learner it seems. Could be delisted before he realises he is in a professional environment. Begs the question, he probably did the same at MFC for nearly 10 pre seasons.

It has been said before that achievement is 90% attitude and 10% talent ... classic case right there. Has the physical attributes to be a top footballer, but not the attitude.

I've tried arak in the past in village in Bali It made my eyes water. In keeping with my ambassadorial role I'm epitomizing the good tourist and sticking to Bintang

I once shared a few cans of imported stout and bintang while travelling through Java, quite privately in a cubby house type thing, with a couple of the local lads. A very nice change from usual "Tehbotol"

That's funny JVF those impromptu meetings often happen in Indonesia and are memorable . Last night I shared quite a few large bintang with 3 prostitutes and their pimp I was walking through a particularly sleazy gang (alley) when it started to bucket down so I heade fo cover . The girls where hilarious and enjoyed my imperfect Bahasa Indonesia I paid for the beer and had a very relaxed couple of hours The beer wasn't overly cold was the only problem

I have to say I've never considered that line as a conversation starter!

"Hi, my name's Uncle Bitter, are you familiar with fungal infections?"

I think it needs a bit of work Red - perhaps some advice from Lothario?

How about, "what goes better with a fungal infection, red or white? Or, is a kiss and cuddle with my fungal infection out of question?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
