There are no last tangos in Romsey DC.

AT least Marlon trimmed his nails.

I doubt you offer the lads the same courtesy with your style of husbandry.

But I'll bet there are plenty of Brando style long old raincoats.

Yes well there are always a few that have particular uses for the old mac even when it is not raining. However I imagine they are more likely to be found around The Gat or, heaven forbid, The Pines.

If WJ is making reference to DH Derryn then it shames me to think I support the same club.

bbo and shame has a nice ring to it

DH would really have felt the heat in more ways than one...if indeed he had gone in this last week....

However, WJ, if you can find a $100K as a donation ..then he will not have to face it at all....

Let's not knock Romsey which was in Melbourne's old country zone and spawned player John Reid who played for us briefly in the early 70s before crossing to his father's old club Footscray. Reid's younger brother, Bruce, was an even better player who Melbourne sought keenly in the mid 70s. Bruce Jr. eventually was cleared to play for the Bulldogs and ended up at Carlton and played over 100 games in total.

His sons are Ben Reid (Collingwood) and Sam Reid (Sydney) which goes to show that we should have treated Romsey with a lot more respect and simply refused to let the Reids out of grasp all those years ago as it would have given us a couple of ready made key position players under the father/son rule as well no doubt, as a herd of alpacas.

Don't be bloody stupid Poon Moon. Just because one lives in a place it does not follow that one would be found dead in the bar of the local public house. (Bawdy house is a different mattter) Consider those who live in StKilda. How many would frequent the Gat? It's only Biffen's ilk that go to such places.

Saw Foxtel Sports News last night had an item on GWS training and it was claimed that the usual suspect was training the house down. Reinforces the rumour I heard that a certain knee injury was embellished and played up as somewhat worse than it really was a few years ago to make it easier for a change of clubs at the end of the season.

That is an historic image of The Gat Fl og. The portrait on the wall is probably one of Biffen's ancestors. (Although, as I understand it, due to some scandalous activities, the lineage is not clear.)

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
