Then it would be of no interest to me as I find berry smoothies too rich for my taste.

I doubt there would be berries...

I think it would be fruitless...

On a lighter note, wonderful news at McDonalds, the arrival of the BANANABERRY smoothie at $2.95. Is there a Maccas on my way home?

The only arrival I would like to see at McD's would be that of Whelan the wrecker :-)

How's the diet going Redleg?

Struggling. I have worked out that food is not my problem, eating it, is.

Well it's the 8th and that means 5 days to go. I have ordered some valium, to keep me under control as the draft goes on and I wait for the results to come up.

hahaha, getting those early picks correct will be critical

There is no more tantalising combination in the world of Australian football than that of Kevin Sheedy and Kim Hagdorn of Sports News First - Sheedy reveals rookie draft plan

This meaningless piece of blabber starts with the suggestion that Sheeds is "unlikely to use all of his privileged picks in the AFL rookie draft this month" (actually he can make up to five rookie picks which is about par for all 18 AFL clubs).

The great man is so underwhelmed by the rookies on offer that he says he might only take one or two which suggests to me that his recruiting wunderkind Phil Sc ... er, you know who ... is already earning that 2 grand a week salary at the club. So, what does he do for the other 51 weeks?

The rest of the article tries to make a silk purse out of the sow's ear that has been the GWS recruiting juggernaut of 2011 and promises more of the same in 2012 as it turns it's attention on the next player it can offer $1m a year plus 10% for the old man if a new position in the club hierarchy can be fabricated for him.

Sheedy has also said that he won't spend big at the pre season draft citing  " salary cap restrictions" . He says the club will target big-bodied players at the pre-season draft but the article does not divulge whether Phil Sc ... er, you know who ... has nominated (the Giants motto is, if you're going for a big body then go for the biggest).

I love this time of year.

As friday dawns we move to 4 days left to wait for this year's major footy event.

This shows the sheer genius of Kevin Sheedy and why he is one of the game's great thinkers.

He has salary cap issues but needs big bodied players so he drafts one who's already included in his club's total player payments anyway.

Sheer brilliance!

Got to think laterally.

With a new player training with us for 1 session before the Rookie draft will that throw predictions out? Then again who has made a prediction anyway?

3 and 3/4 days to go.

Here we go!

Williams, Couch & Clutterbuck. we just have to have a name to laugh about.

If we have a fourth I don't care. Life stops at a clutterbuck.

H_T feel free to edit spelling mistakes. I can take it.

Edited by Chippy

Clutterbuck's a given and the obvious candidate for the number 31 guernsey.

Couch already looks to be a part of the furniture.

The other two?

I'd take a KPP and a medium/small outside midfielder who can go forward or back.

I like the cut of Marley Williams' jib.

He fits one of the areas I think we're lacking in and I like the fact that he's a booming kick.

I think the rest will probably come from the list of those who are training with us although Tom Sundberg, who was a teammate of Tom Couch at Collingwood, would be a handy addition in the midfield.

The big lad Williams from Norwood EFL appeals as well but I haven't seen the rookie candidates at training so I'm relying entirely on hearsay.

I suppose we'll know in a little over 3½ days.

Clutterbuck will be a commentators nightmare!! Heat of the battle quick play you wait.

As long as he goes to a club i will smile...

3 days. Not sure if we will go a smokie with the number of boys training with us. I am pretty certain that Couch will be 1 and that leaves 3.

Yeah, and he also has a dance song already.

Do the Clutterbuck,

Do the Clutterbuck,

if you cannot get a kick

then you're outa luck.

Ok that's the start get it going

Put your body in,

do a little spin,

Grab the pill and give it off, then do it all again.

Run and run all day,

That is how we play,

See the Dees and watch them go,

We're heading for a win.

Why not? You can at least understand the words, even if they are a trifle simplistic.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
