Who will be our best player in 5 years time?

This is a tricky exercise. If you had said in June 2006 that 5 years down the track, the best player at the MFC would be between Colin Sylvia and Mark Jamar, you would have been laughed at. I'm sure players like Nathan Jones, Brock McLean and Matthew Bate were being thrown around back then.

But let's do it anyway.

I'm going to say Jack Watts. Just can't see how anyone will be able to stop him should he continue to improve the way he has been.

My smoky is Jordan Gysberts.

I'll say Gysberts, there's just something about him that is so cool, and he doesn't shirk a contest even being slightly built and lanky. Good over head, will kick goals, will be creative.

His upside is massive.

I'm going to say the big Max Factor. I am amazed at what he can do as a 19 year old 208cm ruckman returning from a serious knee injury - cannot wait to see how good he is as a mid 20 year old, which is when most ruckman really start to hit their straps.

scully..

Gawn (if scull goes)

the bloke will be sandilands x 10

*beaten to the punch!

Trengove.

He will take match-saving marks down back. He will take match-winning marks up forward. He will win the ball out of the middle. No-one else will do all of these things.

I don't reckon we have a Brownlow coming to us in the next few years because they will all get votes . The stars will be Watts ,Trengrove ,Jordie G ,Tapscott ,Martin ,Strauss , Scully and Gawn ,Howe ,Lj

From other clubs

Swallow bros

Martin . D

Wellingham

nicnat

Jordie Mac as the heart and soul and Trenners as the polish.

Sylvia Saint, would you choose Nick Riewoldt over Lenny Hayes. I wouldn't, in a Month of Sunday games @ the 'G'!

So lets look @ Watts or Gysbergan or Trengove?

I'm going for our Hayes, or Hodge, for mine It's Tren grove. I want a street named after him. ;)

Good thread.

I think Steffy will be right up there as one of the most important.

I like the look of Maric, just has something different about him, a spark. With the kind of comitment he shows at train, there has tobe some kind of reward. He trains the house down, one day somethings going to click...

I hope your right about him too ..Good left of centre oick .

Max Gawn's tackle at the city end was just sublime for a big man!!!

That is the commitment needed each game if we are to rise. (Not just at the MCG either.)

That kid could be anything.

In 5 years Scully will be a Premiership Captain with Trengove, Mckenzie & Watts his deputies.

C'mon guys the whole team is going to ROCK!!! B)

Hrmmm.... Jack Viney?Haha.. Nah not yet.

I will say Jurrah if Watts Howe and Cook allow him to play his natural game by them taking the bigger and better backman. Want him to play a Stevie J role eventually.

Jack Watts

Would be between Scully and Grimes in my opinion. Jack Grimes seems to be a forgotten man of late....

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
