According to the AFL Match Centre, the whole team had 11 Goal Assists so ther might be a misunderstanding somewhere along the line.

33 scores and only 11 assists? So the other 22 were players taking it cleanly from the ruck, running to 50 and bombing? What exactly do they count as an assist anyway?

The old comparison of Nats v Watts as #1 pick is gradually being put to bed.

IMO, Watts more versatile, quietly deadly, no low percentage tricky stuff, more long term upside failing injury.

In fact the comparison isn't realy made any more, is it?

I never really jumped off the Watts bandwagon but if you had told me 2 months ago that Jack would be having this kind of impact, I would have scoffed at the thought.

But he is almost literally getting better each week. I shudder to think how good he'll be in 5 years time.

Posted

Is there a difference between goal assists and scoring assists? This could explain it.

Great game by Watts today. He rarely gets beaten in marking contests now, which resulted in a number of crumbing goals, e.g. LJ.

A few more kgs next season and he will be ready to go!

Big difference from earlier in the year is now they are looking to bomb to him whereas previously they would kick it anywhere else but Jack. He is now imposing himself on the game and the rest of the team is showing their confidence in him marking the ball.

The thing that impresses me the most about Watts is not so much how he's playing but it's his attitude. When he started he seemed like he was just cruising - you could watch him and compare him to Scully and Trengove - he had about 10% of their effort - he seemed to be happy to have been drafted at number 1 and that's all he was hoping to achieve - little effort or enthusiasm. All has changed in the past month or so - Take a look at his face here http://www.afl.com.au/video/tabid/76/contentid/366812/brilliant+goal+from+watts/default.aspx - so awesome to see him getting so fired up! I was perplexed when Bailey made him the sub against Gold Coast - I thought what better game to get your confidence up but they left him on the bench - could be the coaching move of the year though - Jack's hit back and since then every game has been the best of his career - I love going to the game and just watching him even when the balls not near him - his effort has increased 1000% - and he's constantly directing traffic telling teammates where to go - and he's only going to get better!

I think he had 11 scoring assists. He got BOG on mmm. JB said to Jack he should go to every person that has bagged him and say stick that up ya. Im glad he is finally showing us his potential.

Im just super impressed with Jack and he is showing us what he is capable of. I loved his contested marks he took and that mark he took in the middle of the pack was superb.

I did get a little annoyed when he gave away that dumb free kick and the tigers scored a goal out of it. He said after the game Dean had words with him. But when he kicked that goal on the 3/4 time siren all was forgiven.

Loved it when he put the the Tiger player down , might have cost us but shows he won't be pushed around any longer

I wish we had of taken Naitanui.

LMAO

Love him! I actually loved the free. It wasn't his fault it resulted in a goal, our defence did a shizen job against that entry, but it showed he wasn't playing BFF and is really starting to have confidence in his physicality. I hope he doesn't do it every week, but this week I loved it, and I loved him. Well under way to super stardom. In truth, I'd be more upset to lose Jack than Tom. Clearly that's just me, but that's how I feel.

Goals = goal assist and points = score assist? i assume a direct involvement in the score, eg. pass, sheperd

I just need to get it off my chest.....

I'm in love with Jack and have been for a number of weeks now...

He and Trengove are the 2 most important players Melbourne has for the future leadership of this club.

Totally in love with them both...

Bastard cost me $150

Remembering his awesome first goal efforts last week and after 8 beers I was walking past the tab in the members and threw $10 on jack at 3/4 time $15-1

Took that mark and he's usually dead eye .. Shattered! Haha

Who could be angry at the awesomeness?

He and Liam have the same walk in action :)

I don't think many would disagree loosing jack would be equally as devastating as loosing Tom both very important to our future but as much as I respect Tom, jack is commited to the Footy club and although I don't know him or anyone that does he looks committed the the MFC long term plays with passion and looks like a natural leader on the ground maybe part of the leadership group in years to come

Just watched the game again and I had the hairs stand up all over me watching that goal before 3/4 time siren. As someone else here stated the look on his face after kicking the goal looked like he was going to kill someone! LOVE it!!

One of the disappointing aspects of the early season for me was the lack of skills and passion on the team. Things have turned around and Jack has been leading the pack.

Really enjoying his work as an onfield leader in the last month.

Yeah, I got the same feeling when they showed it again on the Sunday Footy Show. Really was an awesome effort, inside 50 defensive effort was brilliant and was rewarded. His emotion after the goal was just awesome to see.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
