Its been a while now since we heard anything about our 40,000 membership target. If the West Coast game didn't kill it, then I guess the Carlton game did.

Still it would be nice to use the reserved seat for the Collingwood game to push things up to 37500. 36102 (as it is today) sounds like a clear failure .... whereas 37500 sounds like a narrow miss. For the sake of the credibility of next year's target ( will it sit at 40000 or lift to 42500?), I'd like to see one last big promotion on the back of the Essendon game. The fact that there hasn't been one suggests that the club believes we've hit a ceiling...... until we can realistically promise finals'action

If A) Scully resigns B ) We make the 8 this year C) Mick Malthouse is our new coach I believe we can easily hit 42,500. Carn Dees!

B is unlikely and C won't happen. Can we increase it by 16% on the back of A only?

hoopla,

The club budgeted for 35,000 members for 2011. Clearly a failure.... (We're now at 36,102 and an update is imminent because the tally has remain unchanged since last week) - nearly 3,000 up on last years tally.

Pre-season saw our tally consistently above last years tally throughout by 2,500-3,000 in terms of numbers. I think it was in March when Jimmy launched the target 40,000 campaign. (Season's launch ?). With consistently good form the club might have gone closer but it was always going to be a stretch. A few bad losses may have had an impact.

You will note that via the clubs website they began a "promotion" as well as at the Carlton & Essendon games for the 3 game memberships. It all depends on your definition of "big"...but it's a promotion nevertheless and a proactive sell point for more memberships.

There is your answer. [Psshhhh...puts out the fire] Credibility remains intact.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
