If we got both Viney and Wines, can we call them Grapes?

Oh come on, it's better than "Scullgove".

Would they be the Grapes of Wrath then ?

Bloody hope so, 'bout time we started some wrathing for what's been happening for too long now.

This it?

@emmasq Hey Emma, In a one word answer, do you think GC or GWS will bid on Viney?

Emma Quayle@emmasq

@shetski gold coast. Unless something changes in next 24hrs

Can you ask her if Melb are giving pick 4 for Dawes & Welling-hack & what will happen December 21 2012

Can I just go on record and say that anyone who thinks we won't take Viney at 3 is delusional.

That's all.

It's not about anyone being delusional its about many hoping for a better than even outcome.

Perfectly valid

Keep in mind nothing Emma (and I rate her highly ) or anyone else for that matters suggests is gospel. Nearly all phantom drafts are just as accurate for the same reasons. The clubs themselves see it a little differently from the punters; even the very knowledgable ones.

Still a lot of ducking and weaving happening prior to the 10am start !

yeah but her record in particular is impeccable, when you look at her forecast for the last couple of drafts - she's probably the last person I wanted to hear that comment from

It's good. Not impeccable. I will allow I'd rather it someone else.

No one (team wise) will be giving away much if anything right about now.

I'm not suggesting she's being played but a very astute mob might put certain things out there.

The silly thing in a way is both gas and go have to play their cards first. In a game of No-trumps you want to be sure of your hand or even aces can go begging.

A very interesting morning awaits

My suggestion BB is for those who are suggesting we don't take him at all and allow GC to take him like Emma is suggesting they will intend to.

the problem is nobody is saying that

Would they be the Grapes of Wrath then ?

what, Grapes Viney,,, & Wrath of Khan ???

just as long as he doesn't become a, wrath child...

Demon

I just want to see us draft the best player available. That may be Viney, but if its not, we should pass. I am amazed supporters would advocate putting Viney above the club.

bugger

Oh come on, she also tweeted a while back that she didn't understand the fuss about us taking him at 3.

If gold coast decide to pick viney at number 2 just to spite Melbourne then they have underestimated the negative ramifications this will cause.

There is no real benefit for them to choose viney and face the risk of Melbourne calling their bluff.

Melbourne will not quickly forget their spiteful behavior and this will come back to haunt them when they want to trade with Melbourne in the future.

pretty much sums it up. It would be great to get him for a 2nd round pick, but we committed to him for 5 years, 3 years ago. So its pretty obvious we'll be taking him at 3. Its just unfortunate that GC wanted to play silly buggers with us.

I agree.

I think GC or GWS will nominate simply for the fact that we're pretty transparently going to select him wherever we need to.

I'm preparing myself for tomorrow when I hear that they've nominated him and we take him at 3 and move on. Hoping, of course, that they won't bid - but not expecting it.

This is spot on. We've been too open for our own good about the fact that we will take Jack, and GCS know it, so they'll bid at 2. I am certain that we'll take him at 3, it would be an enormous backflip on our commitment to him that we didn't. Huge bonus if GCS don't bid but can't see it happening. Shame that we'll have to use pick 3 but at the end of the day he sounds to me like exactly the type of player we need. Thank god we still have pick 4 to get another gun youngster.

Should we run a Demonland fundraiser? Perhaps a 5 buck entry fee - guess the number of people who'll be on Demonland at 10.00am tomorrow. Winner takes half the pot and Demonland pockets the other half.

Really hope I log on (whilst teaching a class) tomorrow to discover hundreds of Demonlanders simply posting, "KOTD".

I agree with this. The whole intent of the father/son rule is to enable sons to get to the clubs where their fathers played without costing that club 'overs' to get them there.

From what I've read, it seems to me that neither GWS or GC actually rate Jack Viney in the top two. But there is a real risk that GC will nominate Viney essentially only to stuff the MFC around. If this occurs, GC and the father/son rule (in its current form) lack integrity.

I have also read numerous reports that suggest that Daniher would be the best pick in this draft if he wasn't going to Essendon under the father/son rule. Why then haven't the Suns been touted as likely to nominate him?

The answer surely has to be the proximity and number of our draft picks relative to GC. Hence, this is not about the best available player at number two - it'll all be about GC stuffing up the MFC.

And IMO that's poor. Very bloody average indeed.

And, if push comes to shove, I genuinely hope we do pick Jack Viney at three.

At least we'll be acting with integrity in relation to the issue.

Viney and Wines at the Dees next year ?

Worth bottling.

My only concern is that they're too similar. But if we can address some outside pace it's worthy of serious consideration.

Viney and wines

MFC Nike it

Absolutely no doubt if you could bet that the mfc will commit to viney tomorrow I would put everything I own on it!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
