The List Manager looks at the Melbourne list

I think Plough has a good understanding of where the list is at. I agree with him that we've got to try out Cook in the side and continue the direction of development. His thoughts on what is 'critical' in going forward aren't wrong IMO. Fair assessment on most if not all players (however I think he failed to mention Strauss when mentioning possible kickers). Interesting that he said he would find it difficult to have both Rivers & MacDonald in the side and that the club should decide on one of them. He was a wrap for Martin & Warnock as back up for the two "keys" in Frawley & Garland. Jcb will just love that. :)

Did he mention Sylvia?

Overall good, you're never going to agree 100% with him. But if you compare that to almost all the other media people around and I think he's done a good job.

I like Plough more since he's been fired.

Good analysis of where our list is at imo. I'm not sure I agree that there's no room for J.Mac and J.Riv in the one team, but apart from that I thought it was a pretty fair summary.

Why was his list so poor at the Toiges then??

A lot of factors come into play there.

Scouting reports could be overly optimistic - he is relying on the opinions of others having not seen a lot of these kids himself.

Depends on how much control he has over the final decision.

Exceptionally highly rated players didn't come on as expected (Tambling).

Getting high draft picks in weaker than 'normal' drafts.

Few late picks and rookies turning out to be 'steals' - again falls on the recruiting department.

Bad trades.

I can't dispute any of the points raised by him. It was a very good assessment of our list. Highlighted a lot of the points that have been raised on these boards. The need for another inside mid will be taken care of in a couple of years, and by then we should be seeing something from our tall forwards, so I think we're in good shape.

I certainly agree with his point about grunt in the guts. We are still light on for power ball winners. (As opposed to Powerball winners.) The footy department have taken a big risk getting rid of James McDonald to blood youngsters. A risk I agree with, as it happens. But we are still very inexperienced and our current lack of heavy bodied ball winners will see us struggle to meet expectations this season.

For those who don't want to listen:

Wallace suggests we're inconsistent, but have plenty of potential. He thinks it's an important year for DB, needing to give the Board confidence the Dees are going to 'ignite' in 2012 if he wants to Coach beyond this year.

Wallace likes our midfield but says it's too inconsistent. Points out that we have a couple of mature players in Moloney and Davey but plenty of young guys. He uggests we're still missing 1-2 inside mids. He suggests that with Campbell a back-up and Fitz/Gawn youngsters, we only have one ruck and thus will play with Jamar plus a makeshift. (No mention of Spencer).

Wallace thinks Morton needs to make it for the Dees, and we should settle him in one position so he can become a good player.

He thinks we have key backs in abundance with Garland and Frawley a strength, given we also have Martin and Warnock as back-ups. He's not convinced MacDonald and Rivers can play in the same side as they're too similar, and we should decide which one we want for the future. Bartram 'honest' and will always get a game, while Grimes is a standout 'quarterback' type who should play across HB. Points out that we still need a couple of kickers off HB - likes the fact we're trying Bennell down there. Points out that Davey and Green can be thrown back there.

Wallace claims that Jurrah, Green, Dunn and Petterd give us the best mid-size forward group but thinks we lack key talls and for that reason thinks we should play Cook. He thinks Watts will be a good player for a decade but will never be a 'bullocking' forward. On small forward, he suggests we're 'decent' in that area, singling out Maric and Wona.

Wallace wraps up by reiterating that Scully staying will be crucial for us, but suggests he will leave. He concludes that we're an 8-12 team, but in "reasonable shape".

As well as the obvious culture problems they seem to have at tigerland. One finals series in what, 16 years now?

But meh... Fairly safe assessment by Wallace

Agree with his comments on settling Morton down for a while - although as he gets older he will always be a bit of a utility type.

Also agreed with leaving Grimes across half back, and rotating perhaps Davey and Green back there for the sake of having some good disposal out of defense.

Fair wrap up for mine, although his comments on Scully make me nervous..

Terry's finally starting to explore list management to build a premiership team...Richmond supporters'll ask why he didn't do that before he signed a five year deal with them. This bloke is a joke.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
