He wasn't in my best players tbh. He isn't the quickest by any stretch, gets caught sometimes and as I've mentioned on other threads will try and bulldoze his way through with three guys hanging off him before eventually going to ground and a pack forms. Occassionally he will get pinged for holding the ball as he did once last night. For the moment we still need him in the side as the youngsters mature.

If Gysberts, Tapscott, McKenzie get regular games he may find it a little tough and will need to perform to remain in the 22. I'm sure he can. As DA mentioned elsewhere I hope he isn't immune from playing at Casey because of his position in the leadership group. (I doubt it would anyway - Miller the example here). If form warrants it for the younger generation with the "nous", he may find himself on the cusp, or off the cusp so to speak. Love the guys committment on and off the field and the value he offers on the field, you can't question his love for the club..but if we're going to be on a 'straight line'..

Understand your point re Casey- but without many senior players now.I'm worried, re the leniency, will be given. I just think he is not up to it.But hope he proves me wrong again.

In addition to my earlier comments, it must be remembered that the last two seasons, Moloney has been pretty good since having overcome injury issues for a prolonged period. He provides much needed strength in close and can be effective with hands and foot. Grunt work shouldn't necessarily go unnoticed. There is plenty of more footy to come for any definitive assessment on not only Moloney, but the playing list in general. It is one match, and a NAB fixture at that. Cast your mind back to Round 1 Nab Cup in Adelaide after two wins. Did any such in-depth assessment take place ? Hmm.

Beamers problem is he tries to do too much. Watch him closely. He ALWAYS shrugs the first tackle. 50/50 on second tackle, and if he gets to a 3rd tackle he is an 80/20 chance to get caught/dispossessed.

He needs to find a link man after the first tackle. We haven't had too many good link men since Mr Woewodin. Someone that can be in the pack but find space to run ahead and create a play. Davey needs to be this player. Scully could be also if he doesn't [censored] off to GWS.

Two years ago we had no tall targets up forward. Kicking it long and deep was a guaranteed turnover.

Moloney ( and Jones) changed his style and concentrated on clean possession out of the centre, by seeking the 2nd option. Now ( and particularly against Essendon) we have targets, and we have targets who are tall, and who are surrounded by small crumbers.

It is time to revert back to type and "kick the bloody thing". Then watch Watts, Jurrah,Dunne,the resting ruck and the smalls take advantage.

Trying to barge through opposition players who have known for 2 years that is exactly what you are going to do, is playing straight into their hands.

I get your point, but I don't think that bombing the ball long into the 50 is going to be a premiership-winning strategy. Even if we leave Jurrah, Dunn and Watts there, it's too easy for opposition teams to float one or two back, zone off, read the play and clear with ease.

However, I do think that, with these forward targets, a releasing option of a long kick to the forward line is more than viable these days. That is, if we're in trouble, just bang it forward.

Ialso think this is definately part of his problem. He has bulked up that much that I feel he thinks he is superman, can shrug off an oppnent at will, then he gets caught an looses the ball. Also his kicking it no no where to no body-lost his precision kicking. Too slow as a back pocket as my friend Deeluded suggested in another thread. He just has to precisionm kick again as per George on the outer suggested. Kick long and accurarely as soon as he gets the ball should be his instructrions as he can get the pill no doubt about that.If not a roleat Casey to regain his skills.

The solution of sorts is to have Beamers get the ball and always hand off before the second tackle after the first onslaught there invariably is a modicum of thinking time. Moloney never uses it well seemingly thinking he's in son sort of perpetual game of British bulldog !! If he can get the ball to a better thinking mid and then run forward providing an option then his booing kick might have more effectiveness . He also needs to lower his eyes occasionally.

Presently he's just too one dimensional and predictable; a liability where he ought to be an asset.
