James McDonald joins GWS

Junior has just joined GWS in a role as player mentor.

It's only a very minor role.

He is mentoring the 3 Victorian pre-selected GWS players that are choosing to stay in Victoria for their schooling before moving to NSW next year.

He's not an assistant coach and there is no mention of him taking on a greater role in 2012, although that may eventually be the case.

Maybe he can talk Tom Scully into staying away from GWS after spending a year involved!!

Tomorrow's news: RUMOUR- Sheedy offers James McDonald 15 million a year to come out of retirement and captain GWS!

Post it on Bigfooty and read about it in the HS tomorrow.

Good on Jnr getting the gig.

Its a 2 way street Maybe Junior can coax a few to return back to Vic

He wouldnt jump ship that quickly.

Could not think of a better character for a new club. Congrats to JNR and I hope they take good care of him. I can see JNR moving into the asst coaching ranks in the near future.

Well we all have to earn a quid. Good luck to you nr in your new position. Im sure GWS will benefit from your experience and good character.

Agree, all the best Junior.

I'm really sick of hearing about GWS on a forum about the Demons.

They're the Boogie man don't cha know.....

This.

I'm glad Junior hasn't been lost to the AFL in general. Surely they'll be looking at him as a specialist tackling coach? I know I would be.

I might be reading way to much in to this, But could there be any chance that it is a bit of a lure tactic to help secure cully? I know McDonalds role at the moment is small but GWS could see it as a chance to improve their chances of signing Scully, who im sure looked up to and respected McDonald. I was thinking it is slightly similar to the Nathan Ablett scenario at GC, but yes is quite different.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
