Cale Morton - our forgotten future (potential) superstar

Bruce played in a different era and I dare say he wouldn't get the same accolades with what is required of players today.

But this is not a Bruce argument.

Morton I simply see as being better because he does not avoid physical contact in the same way.

can we stop the bruce bashing! he was a great player for the melbourne football club!

and i'm not sure ur serious with this statement! i am a big supporter of morton but even i will admit hes willingness to go hard at the ball and accept body contact is a big weakness of his which i hope he erases from he's game like greeny has done!

A pragmatic appraisal of Bruce is not "bashing".

But I don't wish to get into an argument about him.

Cale is an outside player predominantly, but does not avoid physical contests in the same way.

It's that simple.

As I stated I hope your right.Your point of a different era- is totally not right.Bruce ran 6th in our B& F this year.He won our B& F in 2008. Therefore what era do you mean- if it is the next era -I agree as Bruce will not be playing.Morton has a long, long way to go to match Bruce's record. However, I do agree- Morton has the makings to do so and I hope he betters it. Morton will be playing in a better team made up of some outstanding individuals.

but all jokes aside, i think the main problem that cale has is the fact he doesnt put his body into the contests, and i believe this was one of the reasons why he was dropped during the season, and this is most likely due to his small frame.

having said that, he should be a good player, he has all the attributes, a big tank, good height, good disposal, decent decision making, if he can just add abit of muscle or weight hopefully, and not be too scared of body contact he will most definately be a very good player.

That situation showed the very opposite, for the more astute amongst us.

Cale was happy to get into a bit of the physical stuff against a much bigger opponent in Brendon Lade.

Those that were there would know that off-screen there was a turn-over that Morton recognised and he was quick off the mark to make an option for his teammates, with the ball actually being kicked in his direction.

Obviously in the video it looked like he was running away scared after a cheeky bit of push & shove, but the fact he got involved in that to begin with sets him apart from Bruce imho.

i know he ended up getting a disposal after it, but it was a joke.

but he definately does shirk the contest, you wouldnt say that cale morton is the person who puts his head over the ball to give it off, but rather he is the reciever.

none the less as i stated, he has the attributes to be a good player

He currently is predominantly an outside player, but I've yet to see him handball at his teammate's feet because he's worried about getting hit.

As he fills out, he will play inside more and put his body on the line more... or he'll play in the VFL.

he ran to create an option and marked the ball

ironically he would have been spared the judgement of cretins if he had continued standing around like an oaf playing push and shove and ignoring the actual football

Are you 8 years old? Or do you just write like you are?

I think this post is just down right rude, unacceptable in which the mods should get involved.Just because another poster has an opinion and express's it accordingly I don't believe anyone should steep this low in response. We are not all as good as you Geiser Sauce or Keyser Suze whatever that means..again, if you were not so lazy and looked up the poster you were replying to - you would have noted he was 19.As your poster name refers to or means--Söze" is Turkish for "talks too much," or "verbal." "Keyser" sounds like the German word "Kaiser," meaning "emperor," while "Kint" sounds ...shoe fits -I say..the person who thinks his King D--k,whom talks too much.

hmm IMO if you are out player bashing and you make a spelling error as bad as that you are fair game...

PS Keyser Soze is a fictional character from the movie The Usual Suspects

Again I respect your point however many of us have spelling mistakes in our posts- I make many, but if someone had a go at me for a spelling mistake- I'd take their guts for garters, that is, if our Mods didn't pick that up earlier - we all should read the terms & conditions again before we steep that low to each other..Andy & WJ would not like a poster to be insulted like that.. IMO-even HT or RR would not allow that..And by the way, I regard you as a very fair poster-most times kind and articulate.

Classic JCB - You decry a posters behaviour and then in the same post you allude to that poster being a "c###".

Great stuff.

Really great.

I respectfully decline to be involved in such a silly argument.

Carry on.

Edit:

Furthermore, no tangible disrespect was intended towards hrob.

Just friendly banter in reply to his jocular assertion that I was Cale's dad.

I've got to say that although I'm aware I come across as some old fuddy-duddy (i'm not) it kind of annoys me how everyone is just so lazy with the way they write things online. Everything you are taught at school is just chucked out the window. Seriously, 'he's dad' that's a fair howler. Note also he was having a go at him by implying he has NFI about Morton and is biased. Obviously not a big deal but I am not opposed to the odd comment to keep some integrity of the English language alive in cyberspace

Was very happy with what I saw from Cale at stages this year, but consistency is probably the biggest hurdle for him. Along with putting on a bit of mass, it's really hard to forget that epic fail Josh Hunt tackle attempt.

Yeah I am a big Morton Fan. I much prefer him as an attacking winger than a "4th Tall Defender". I have visions of him running forward and kicking goals for us in 2008 and 2009 (maybe that was because there was so few goals in those years). I think he is a match up problem for other teams as he could take his smaller midfield opponent forward and out mark them and kick goals. I doubt he could be as good as Goodes or Goddard but fingers crossed. He does not kick the ball as well as Goddard and I agree with 1858s post earlier he does not have the power, explosiveness or quick burst to win clearances like Adam Goodes does but possibly this can be developed. I am sure he kicked 3 goals against the Cats too. I also think settling him down on a wing would be good for him. Anyone see any of his best footy as a Junior in WA and could comment on why he was taken as a number 4 draft pick in that year? I think he holds up as one of the better players in that year's draft. More impact than Cotchin, Masten and Palmer however due to injuries to those players possibly too. Thoughts?

Like most talls,Cale will take a while especially with his build. I saw Goodes as an Under 18 or 19 player kick I think 5 goals in a Grand final win for North Ballarat. He was picked up in the 50's by the Swans in that year's draught.Recriters thought he was to slow. Still time for Cale to develop to an elite player.

Recriters thought he was to slow.

I don't believe that recruiters ever thought that Goodes was slow. His pace is a virtue. The knock on him in his junior days was that he was too soft.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
