Jack Viney commits to Demons

Featured Replies

What doesthat really accomplish. He's just about too good for the Sa u18 comp and had he stayed would be starting in the Roosters ressies in 11 so why not bring him along in the Scorps ? TAC is for boys. Viney will outgrow that very quickly

This is very good news. Jack Viney from my contacts in SA would have all likelihood have gone at no 1 in 2012 draft. For us to get yet another no.1 pick when IMO we will be well into the eight next year is quite remarkable. It makes 2014 even more likely, and you just wait for the other clubs sceaming about the unfair drafting rules (watch EFC and the Pies). Particularly the Pies - they seem to think there is an endless run of premierships for the next ten years.

The Dees will be their nemisis.

What about Tubby's "Australia's favourite air?" (Fujitsu)

I doubt it.

edit: Whilst it might be good news, the Viney saga should be a fait accompli. We all know he's coming.

Ummm!!!

This is sensational news. The belief in Adelaide is that Jack Viney will be an elite player. Terrific skills with an attack on the ball that simply frightens opponents (exactly like his father in that respect!) We have just claimed the de facto #1 draft pick of 2012.

Go Dess!

:) :) :) :) :) :)

What number is he going to get. I need to prepare my duffel coat.

Very happy to get the official news. Go the Jacks!!

Ummm!!!

You have something to say ? I said I doubt it, didn't say it wouldn't be. Comes to me as no great surprise tbh.

Maybe not a surprise to you to have it announced at a press conference, but the timing of the announcement by the club is a great initiative, both in terms of marketing and membership drive. I was merely stating a fact at the time.

Seems not eligible to play for Scorps ti 012. So might all be moot

do you mean 2012 or 2013?

he doesn't get drafted till Oct 2012

under what rules could he play in 2012?

The only real benefit would be the fact that he can be in a professional environment in the summer before he gets drafted which might mean he will rip it up in the u/18s but also be ready to go Rd 1, 2013.

He could play for the Scorps next year if they wanted him to.

Just hope this kid continues to develop now and carry on his under 16 form through to the under 18's and beyond.

It's great to finally see a top quality father/son coming to Melbourne. You can't help but be a little bit excited by this propsect seeing how our first pick in the 2012 draft could well be in the mid-late teens if we keep improving and moving up the ladder like we all hope.

So anyone know what the rules are here?

What happens if Jack Viney has some severe injury which either prevents him from playing or doesn't make him as desirable a draft pick? What if he "goes off the rails" or some other unlikely event means either we don't want him anymore or he doesn't want to play for us?

I obviously hope none of that happens, but surely nothing is signed that can't be undone?

First call. Great work.

Cheers.

Was about to bump my own post too.

Exciting news, very happy it's official. Now Adelaide can leave him alone.

Well the decision has come and he's ours!!!!!

Great work MFC and JV.

Now all that is required is hard work........

Jack Grimes kicks long from full back, Jack Fitzpatrick takes a towering pack mark, handballs off to Jack Viney streaming along the MCG wing, Whack.....Jack Trengove lays out Dale Thomas with a wonderful hip and shoulder as Viney keeps running. A spearing pass down the throat of a hard leading Jack Watts who immediately turns onto his trusty right foot and goes BANG from 50..................Goal.

Sorry, just a little day dreaming...think i'm a little excited!

Red that's what I thought . HeraldSun suggests not til 012. I don't see why not. I can see no reason he can't transfer from sanfl to vfl.

The reason the clun announced it, is because he is eligble to be taken by GWS under there draft concessions. It is similar to the libba/wallis situation at western which was announced a year out otherwise GC could of taken them but father/son override these selections.

And if something happens like injury and no other club nominates we get him as the last pick in the draft which is doubtful we still have teh ability to not slect him if he is nominated by a club at a pick that we don't want to match

The only real benefit would be the fact that he can be in a professional environment in the summer before he gets drafted which might mean he will rip it up in the u/18s but also be ready to go Rd 1, 2013.

Benefit of two summers in a professional environment ? 2010/2011 & 2011/2012.... ?

He'll rip it up regardless. Wonder what height he'll get to...

I wouldn't think he will be seen on the track this summer but who knows?

192?

It said in his video interview he wouldn't be moving 'until January'...one would think to align with his schooling. and not club training commitments.

Anyhoos well done to the club :) Fantastic effort by Schwabby & co.

If Victoria is the place to be then Melbourne's the team to be in :)

You'd hope he makes it past 180cm.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
