I guess I just have high hopes we'll get a quality KPF with pick 12, which I see as necessary.

Mundy, whilst a gun, is not necessary as we already have the makings of a decent midfield.

If we do get him, I will be over the moon.

But i think our priorities lie elsewhere.

Success in football isn't determined by who has the most tall players in the forward line. Plenty of teams below even us on the ladder have a clutch of 'quality KPFs'. Year in, year out, the Premiership is won by the best midfield with a strong defence. A great, big, tall forward line is worth nothing without a top level midfield delivering the ball to it. Our midfield is currently full of potential, but history shows that not all of that potential is going to be realised.

Mundy has realised his potential and is now ready to click into the prime of his career. It would be sensational to have such a quality player added to our young group right now.

Why do you view it as more important to pick up young(er) (potential) talent over young (proven) talent???

Every year the 1st round spits out some absolute donkeys (especially talls) whereas with Mundy we know that we're getting exactly the quality of player we would hope a 1st round pick develops into. No risk, all reward.

I don't think we'll use pick 12 on a KPP even if we keep it. In fact, I'd be very surprised if we did. If we go for one it'll likely be later in the draft.

Mundy is a quality player. Big body, wins contested footy, carries the ball and a penetrating kick. I'm happy we're going after him because, aside from is obvious quality, he complements our current midfield very well.

But we'll wait and see what happens.

Assuming that's right, his career is beyond the halfway point. Young enough, but I would call him young.

I think, considering the strength of this draft and the prospects available to us, it'd be irresponsible to trade away our first round pick.

Jack Watts may have been drafted as a key forward, but I don't think there's a rule saying you can only have one.

A lot of great premiership teams of recent times have multiple key forwards.

Franklin, Roughead.

Lynch, Bradshaw, Brown.

Hird, Lloyd, Lucas.

Last year the saints almost took it with Kosi & Riewoldt.

Personally I discount WC and Sydney because I believe they won in times when there weren't any great strong teams.

Geelong is a notable exception, and maybe that is the way the game is going.

Perhaps Liam Jurrah might be the one more??? The bloke kicks two goals a game, is 6' 1 1/2" and just took Mark of the Year. I reckon he stacks up pretty well as a key forward.

Not forgetting that we have Dunn & Bate at 6'3". Both of whom are first round picks let's not forget.

Oh, Bulldogs structure ring any Bells?

You certainly don't want to go too big and lose mobility & pace & defensive pressure. But the Leadup forward role of Riewoldt who cam roam with a big tank to push back deep is Fantstic.

Add to that someone like a Mooney or a Dawes as the second tall, then Sylvia, Jurrah on the flank, Green or Petterd, Wonnaemirri, then I think wer'e getting close.

Just read that (1) Melbourne based club has pulled out of the race for Mundy because of the price he's asking for. From memory MFC has said the same thing about a player we were chasing in the last few years? so I wonder if this is us that has pulled out the race.
