We didn't win. That'll hurt him.

Plus Taylor Hunt played for the Cats who won, and he got just as many touches.

On the plus side though he earned one way back in the first few rounds of this year when he was leading the league in tackles and keeping pace with Scullgove in disposals.

If JM does get up, that'll be four for the year. Add a Jack Watts bag and we might have 5 for the year, equalling the record set by the Bombers more than a decade ago.

And yes, yes, it's a [censored] award. We all know this. Still fun to keep an eye on though.

He's behind a list of players.

Jarrad Grant

Ben Nason

Taylor Hunt

to name a few.

Hard to see this award being taken off Dan Hanneberry at this point. Pretty sure the Naitanui hype machine ran out of steam a few weeks ago when it became apparent the single figure possession games weren't "off days" but just the limit of his capabilities.

Always nice to take something from the season Dappa and why shouldn't we be encouraged at least when our players receive noms?

He has a few credits in the bank and was nice to see him back to his early season best. Hopefully he gets one as he is working hard Jordie.

If it's an award for consistency, yes. But it isn't.

Well, not normally.

He deserves it the most though.

Astbury for the tigers might pip him. Played well at CHB for the tigers. If he keps this form up though he will get one sooner rather than later

Astbury's stats: 21 disposals (9 kicks, 12 handballs, 86% efficiency), 5 marks, 1 tackle, 1 clearance, 74 SuperCoach points against Sydney's forward line

McKenzie's stats: 24 disposals (8 kicks, 16 handballs, 63% efficiency), 3 marks, 5 tackles, 7 clearances, 77 Supercoach points against St Kilda's midfield

If you had to choose just by looking at that McKenzie gets it.

Hanneberry's form dropped off quite a bit rounds 11-13. The general consensus was that he'd fallen from favouritism. Though I agree with you. With no standout, Hanneberry would be one of the big threats.

For the stats lovers, of all the rising star possibilities this year, who would you imagine is averaging the most? Trengove? Scully? It's Rockliff. And for those same stats lovers, we have 4 players in the top 8.

Pos Name Club Games played Av

1 Tom Rockliff Brisbane 11 21.4

2 Tom Scully Melbourne 13 21.1

3 Jordan Gysberts Melbourne 3 21.0

4 Jack Trengove Melbourne 13 20.6

5 Dustin Martin Richmond 13 20.5

6 Ryan Bastinac North Melbourne 14 19.7

7 Daniel Hannebery Sydney 12 18.9

8 Jordie McKenzie Melbourne 11 18.0

My tip is Stratton from the Hawks for this weeks nom.

Mmm. Not too much spoken about him either.

JACK WATTS?

- only 1 goal, but 18 touches and 9 marks.

Not a bad output.

Balloon has popped on Nik Nat.

Could still be a good player for many years. But not the superstar the Press were hung on.

when rivers won, was it based on consistency of possessions ?

Riv won on his composure and courage for a 19 yr old. His strength in reading the playing and taking courageous marks.

His strength is still his ability to zone off but he needs more in his game, running off half back and using it.

Question is, if he picks up his form and ends the year well, will they forget the middle part?

He's still a threat, jeez I hope he misses out though. I couldn't stand to see his mug in the papers day-in-day-out.

The way West Coast are playing, I can't see how his form could pick up so significantly that he'd suddenly be back in contention.

He has shown less consistency than Jack Watts, and has done about as much.

In fact, he and Jack average the same disposals per game and Watts has a higher goals per game average and more than double average marks per game, and that's despite playing in the war zone that is our forward line.

Now Watts won't win the award, he probably won't even win a nomination, so there is no way in hell that Naitanui should win it!

Are Barlow and Podsiadly eligible? Or are they excluded because of their age?

Age limit is 21. Barlow's 22 and Podsiadly's 28 :D

jordie mckenzie may get a nomination if he keeps the stats when we win, but personally i think jack watts this week against essendon will have a dominating display.

imo the problem with mckenzie is he isnt flashy enough in a sense, he does alot of grunt work which hampers him from getting a rising star nomination.

Posted

It just feels to me like he's going to have a huge breakout game at the same time Watts does. We'll probably only win 2-3 more games for the year on current form...

Jordie's going to end up being under-rated his whole career methinks.

Not this week Hawk defender got the gig

Weak, Jordie was far better, I watched both games and Jordie was the better of the two, I don't need to look at the stats to prove it either....

But I will anyway

McKenzie 24 63 8 16 0 0 0 3 5 7 1 77 71

7 Clearances!!!

You're a gun Jordie, Bombers won't know what hit them.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
