hardtack 11,116 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 They all have a name containing at least one letter of the alphabet.
Eth 4 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 If the answer is that they've all had threads about them, then you're missing Watts
Reality Bus 17 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 hmmm. well some of you are right, in the way that they all do have a letter of the alphabet in their names; they are promising; they are all hopefully part of our next premiership; and that we have written extensively on all of them. Unfortunately, not the answer I'm after. I'm hoping I can add Watts to this list. Bonus hint: Nathan Jones should be listed twice
hardtack 11,116 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I'm hoping I can add Watts to this list. Bonus hint: Nathan Jones should be listed twice You are stalking all of them on either Facebook or Twitter?
Reality Bus 17 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Bingo, Rising star nominations. We have a winner!! Get the man a gold star and a cold beer. Not sure what the purpose of the exercise was. Maybe to procrastinate from what I should really be doing? Maybe to highlight the immense amount of talent in our side? But yes, 18 current-day listed MFC players have earnt themselves a Rising Star nomination. Not a bad 18 if you ask me!
Red Sox 2 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Hopefully in 20 years time they are all returning to the club to celebrate that historic Melbourne three-peat of premierships....2012, 2013, 2014!!! I'm expecting some attrition and changes to the flag winning sides of 2016, 2018 and 2019. Not that I'm greedy!
Redleg 42,195 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Morton Bruce Bartram Grimes Sylvia Garland Wonaeamirri Moloney Rivers Jones Scully Jurrah Petterd Bate Gysberts Trengove Davey Green Well lets take a serious look at this conundrum. None of them wear Warnock's jumper. They have all had consecutive games this year. None of them has climbed Mt. Everest. All of them were born very close to their mother. They all wear two boots in a game. They are all right handed except for the ones that are left handed. They are all under 63 years of age. None of them play for the Pies. They all enjoy dinner. They all play their football on grass. All of them can kick a footy further than 23 metres. Everyone of them has been in a car. None of them has walked on the moon. Every one of them has a birthday each year. All of them were or are teenagers. All of them wear pants. None of them are jockeys. All of them weigh more than 46 kilos. Everyone of them has touched a football in the last week. Everyone of them has visited the suburb of Casey. All of them are married, have a girlfriend or are single. None of them eat sardines and icecream for breakfast. Everyone of them has watched TV in the last year. All of them have sat on a chair in the last 3 weeks. Did I get the correct answer or should I keep guessing? PS. Damn someone got the correct answer while I was typing.
Reality Bus 17 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Well lets take a serious look at this conundrum. None of them wear Warnock's jumper. - Can't verify They have all had consecutive games this year. - Jurrah disagrees None of them has climbed Mt. Everest. - Can't verify All of them were born very close to their mother. - I assume so They all wear two boots in a game. - Unless they aren't tied on tight enough They are all right handed except for the ones that are left handed. - or ambidexterous They are all under 63 years of age. - James McDonald was unlucky to miss out on a nomination None of them play for the Pies. - Davey and Jurrah did They all enjoy dinner. - Except for those that dont They all play their football on grass. - The MCG is more a carpet All of them can kick a footy further than 23 metres. - Brock shipped himself off to Carlton, and we missed out on Ball, so I'll pay that Everyone of them has been in a car. - How do you expect them to get to Casey None of them has walked on the moon. - Most likely Every one of them has a birthday each year. - Correct All of them were or are teenagers. - Correct All of them wear pants. - Bruce wears them out on to the ground None of them are jockeys. - Probably All of them weigh more than 46 kilos. - Morton says hello Everyone of them has touched a football in the last week. - You'd hope so Everyone of them has visited the suburb of Casey. - True All of them are married, have a girlfriend or are single. - Except for any that may be gay. None of them eat sardines and icecream for breakfast. - It's a breakfast of champions Everyone of them has watched TV in the last year. - Can't verify All of them have sat on a chair in the last 3 weeks. - Can't verify Did I get the correct answer or should I keep guessing? - I'll give you a B overall. I know, I'm a hard marker. PS. Damn someone got the correct answer while I was typing. Probably the most accurate answer you gave, Either that, or being born close to their mother.
Hobbits's 17 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Bonus hint: Nathan Jones should be listed twice you should get the gold star and the cold beer after virtually handing the answer on a silver platter with that clue. good question nevertheless. well done.
Reality Bus 17 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Trust me, the Cascade Lagers are chilling away nicely waiting for it to tick down to 5pm.

praha 11,274 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Goes to show how having d-grade facilities has hurt this team. Our drafting has never been an issue imo. It's giving players the opportunity to take the next step up from being just a good player. We just can't do it. Hopefully the tide is turning with Casey, Olympic Park, etc. People really underestimate its affect on this club. It's almost killed it in every way (on and off the field).
ox_5 163 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Its a great stat. I mentioned this on the Gysberts thread the other day. Its really promising for the future, as most are long term players starting out their career.

Yes i agree with that completely. So does The Ox's knees. If only we had A Grade training facilties when he was a young boy. Would have given that Carey Tool a run for his money B)

The Chazz 4,077 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Can someone run a correlation analysis on this and see if it positively correlates to finals success? If someone really, really has too much time on their hands, can they report on other clubs and how many nominations they have on their lists? Be interesting to see if we are a standout, or if our numbers are industry standard. One other thing for discussion - people are always talking about our lack of decent facilities playing a big part in the development of our players, but the question I am throwing out there is how much? My personal opinion is that we are using this as an excuse. While it isn't ideal when you compare it to the power clubs, we have had it for many years so why didn't we do something about it? What I mean by that is that while the Junction Oval facilities were very basic, why didn't we use that to our advantage and have a number of state-of-the-art locations across Melbourne. Again, this is not ideal as it could involve splitting the team up at various stages throughout the week (ie. a group of players could be doing rehab in one location, while the other group could be doing weights in another location). I have not seen the facilities at Geelong, but I'm pretty sure they use multiple locations each week. While player development is so important in the quest to win a flag, a lot of it still depends on the success of recruiting. This is just an opinion!
