On whiteboard Wednesday Cameron Schwab talks about the introduction soon of the Emblem for the MFC. Looking at the words of the song, the emblem is the flag - the grand old flag.

Although the music to the grand old flag was written in 1906, some players put the words to the music in 1912, as they were preparing to travel down to Tassie for a game.

Cameron Schwab says that the emblem was shown to a few people & it will prove to be very exciting when released to the public!!

They realigned last year ! From last year, April Fools Day, of all days : -

At an announcement made at the MCG today, the Melbourne Football Club (MFC) once again became a Sporting Section of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).

President of the MCC, David Meiklejohn, said, “This very important and historic agreement recognises a grand sporting tradition that is central to the competition, and goes back to the very foundation of the game itself. Appropriately, given its importance, the creation of this agreement has been many months in the making.”

The core objective of the agreement between the two organisations is to establish a close relationship for the benefit of the two clubs. The Melbourne Football Club, while remaining a separate legal entity, will become a Sporting Section of the MCC.

The agreement includes:

· The MFC’s use of the MCC name and logo as an MCC Sporting Section

· The MFC’s administrative occupancy at the MCG

· MCC support of the MFC in relation to:

o Facilities

o Administration, business and commercial assistance and opportunities

o Financial

o Social and cultural

· Qualification for MCC Playing membership as per the club’s guidelines

President of the Melbourne Football Club, Jim Stynes, said, “The two clubs share much heritage and there is great symbolism in relation to this agreement. The way forward is very much about mutuality and support for our respective goals and objectives in coming years – and hopefully decades.”

As football took hold in the 1850s and beyond, the relationship between the MCC and MFC also developed to such an extent that the football club became an MCC Sporting Section in 1889. The two clubs separated in 1980.

The Melbourne Football Club now joins a range of sporting activities affiliated with the MCC, including cricket, baseball, bowls, croquet, golf, hockey, lacrosse, real tennis, shooting, squash and tennis.

The two Presidents and CEOs signed a document symbolising the renewed connection between the two entities. The wording of the document is as follows:

The relationship between the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Melbourne Football Club is as old as the game itself. Our clubs share both heritage and heroes, sparked by the spirit of Tom Wills in 1858 as he sought a means of keeping his Melbourne cricketers fit during the winter months. A game was born, and so was the Melbourne Football Club.

If the MCG is ‘the paddock that grew’, we cultivated it together, through hope and hardship, with characters and colour, and with a shared heart that always beats true.

Let it be known that, on this day, the clubs again unite for the greater good, and with a spirit of mutuality and reciprocity.

so a modern twist on the MCC logo then? I recall Schwabby saying in WW it would be different to what most other clubs have these days - i.e. not like the new Crow, Lion, Bomber, Eagle, Roo, but possibly more like Carlton's logo... (that's my reading of it anyway)

I really hope it's similar to this logo.

I used it extensively when I designed the merchandise range, because to me it was beautiful, traditional and quite interesting without having that tackiness factor.

That's the kind of look i want, it must have Tradition, but do we get a demon in there as well somehow. As CS said in todays WW it is going to represent all of the club-The Demon is a big part of that.

Shall be very interesting to see what the final result is. It's also got to be something Generations of players can identify with together and play with passion for.

When I met with Schwabby a few months ago to collect the Scully jumper, he showed me the basic emblem they had come up with, which I assume is what he's referring to. I'm not about to give anything away here of course, but I will say that it definately got the thumbs up from me.

I've also know someone involved in designing the new Demon mascot and have been lucky enough to see a few different designs they club is working with. Again, excellent.

I think everyone will be pretty impressed with what the club has come up with and the feel they are going for.

I have seen the mock up design, as a friend of mine works for the design company he has been working on it and all I can say is WOW!!!

It is definately traditional and perhaps more like an EPL Emblem than anything in the AFL at the moment.

I think all will be very happy when it is released.

When my mate first saw the design he said "There is nothing else like it"

Yes mfcnow too reveal it now would be an unfair stealing of the thunder of the people who have put a lot of thought and work into the design. Suffice to say that I described the emblem design and story attached to it to a die-hard 13-year old demon fan and judging by the look of the excitement in her eyes it confirmed to me that both the design and the story attached to the emblem is excellent and conveys a powerful message that will resonate with supporters of all ages.

I look forward to the official launch (no idea when).

"Conveys a powerful message." Haven't seen it, but going by the previous reports of a few posters, I can't wait to see it.

I am a Chelsea Fan and was stoked when they releeased their updated emblem 5 years ago. It had the right amount of tradition and contemporary design.

That being said i've personally found that our own tracitional MFC emblem has not been utilised for 20 years. With the current 'car sticker' emblem and a demon whose face looks like it's had some serious botox our image is that of a second tier team. From what i have read this new club emblem will really set us apart and not going down the road of the "Looney Tunes" logos that the Crows and Lions have released this year.

Although i still am a huge fan of the original Demon logo from the 70's. It's the only team emblem i have seen that has a porn star moustache!

Not sure about an appropriate time, but I believe we will not be able to use it in an official capacity until next year.

Perhaps we will release it when we move into our new home at AAMI park. I am guessing the clubs Emblem will be mounted somewhere near our offices. That might be a way to show we have come of age and embraced our proud heritage while moving forward (finally).

I'm excited for it to be the MFC type thing, have been waiting for years to get a demons tatt, but don't want it to be ironic cool like the 80s logo, but not the awful looking demon we've had recently. It's ok for a jumper, not for a tattoo (p.s. no it won't be my first tatt, and I don't like premiership tatts - they mean as much to me now with 4 wins out of 9 as they will with the premiership cup)

Have had the privelage of seeing the new emblem.

As has been said previously, it is a fantastic mix of the MFC's history, place in the game, and traditions - without being too old fashioned.

I think everyone will be impressed.

How have some of u (with the exceptions of the ones that have explained there stories) been able too see this new design unless your working for the club or know someone designing it?? Just out of curiousiry that's all as I am very very excited , I have felt for a long time it's something we have lacked a strong emblem that says we are the Melbourne football club. Gee I really love what the football department are doing with his great club. The past 18+ months will proove too be the great rise of the Melbourne football club on and off the field

Sounds as if this will actually be a new emblem rather than a new 'logo'. If so, that sounds terrific.

To under the difference I am talking about perhaps contrast the Brisbane & Adelaide 'logos' with the Collingwood & St Kilda 'emblems'.

Am I on the right track here??

Hi Daz, it was presented at a Mates Of Melbourne breakfast seminar.

Am I missing something here? They want to keep it under wraps for now, and yet, it seems, half the members on this forum have already seen it, and it's even been trundled out at a breakfast function!

Is it worthy of a tattoo? I have never had one before. But i would be proud to carry our emblem if i knew it was the Emblem of the Future & Beyond.

I hate it when logo's are changed or updated-The organization becomes diluted (unless of course the previous design was terrible)

This new emblem i hope is to be used for 100's of years, at least that should be the guidlines.
