The Great Wall of Melbourne

Inner Demon

Nice little article.

Oddly enough, whenever I see things on the great wall, I think of James Wall from Casey. A very nice player. He's another one who could be considered for rookyness at the end of the year.

Back to the article however, that's a staggering improvement from last year to this one. 22 less points conceded per game is a phenomenal leap. Imagine if we were to do the same again next year. :P

It's nice to finally get some recognition for our defence, but he still couldn't help the snipe at our supporter base in the final paragraph (or maybe I'm reading into that too much?).

Whilst I know there is an avalanche of opinion on why the Demons won't make the finals in another thread. This little article gives some weight as to why the demons could make the eight.

Of course, this will depend upon the consistent nature of the Demons performances this season. Or will that be 'inconsistent?'

Anyway, depending upon the rate of improvement within our forward structure as the side builds 'synergy' and 'confidence' and 'momentum', our questions will sooner or later be answered,... eventually. :)

Does anyone see how I sat on the fence ? B)

I love it.

this is a good sign, DB has a good defence, this is something that ND was never able to form, even when we where a top four side, our defence had no stars in it, and when every we did not kick goals the opposition would kick lots, now by the look of it when we don't kick goals this year we have been able to hold sides to low score most of the time. there are more good defenders in this one side, then ND had in all his time at the Dee's, this is where he failed to take as to the top, and that is he never had a good defence.

Even blind freddy can tell you the dees have the best young back line in the AFL. The dees back line looks the goods, and it will only be a matter of time before the midfield is polished a little further, and the front 6 start causing problems.

One of the commentators from the Port Adelaide game was raving about how good our backline is. (Oviously before the last quarter) Then said the best thing about it was they could all play together for ten years, mentioning Warnock. Great effort for Warnock to play until his 36.

I think you'll find it was Tony Shaw. He loves us for whatever reason. Has been very complimentary of us all season.

I think you'll find a lot of commentators are starting to get on the Demon Express, as they realise we play an exciting brand of football which will see us enjoy great success over the next decade. With a bit of luck, we'll be better than the Geelong of the past 4 years.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
