Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A time for reflection?

With all the positivity surrounding the demons over the past 12 months, I feel it is necessary to reflect on all the changes that have happened, because let's be honest, MFC was a basket case even very recently.

As little as 2 years ago the common line was- 'no money, no supporters, no home, no facilities, no team'

- MFC $5m in debt, relying on AFL funding, and did not have a profitable business model (making losses every year).

- small sponsorship deal

- training at junction oval, with possums in the admin roof, no goal posts or nets, and a cricket pitch through the middle.

- Daniher had not planned ahead and out list looked destined for spend 10 years at the bottom

Now

- We finally have a home; 2 in fact. We have 'bubble dome' as an elite training centre (including full sized field with goal posts, pool, gym etc) with our Administration also at 'bubble dome'. We also have Casey fields (including a full size-oval, gym, pavilian) to train in over the summer and once a week during the season proper

- We still have only $1m of debt, but we are continuing to cut away at it. Extra money coming in now includes $100k extra per game b/c of new stadium deal, $1m p.a. from MCC relationship, recently purchased pokie machines etc.

- We have one of the higher sponsorship agreement in the AFL

- Our membership has continued to increase by 5% each year, now up to $32000.

- Our crowd numbers at the MCG are quite strong, no longer should we see crowds of $15,000 at the MCG

- We have an inspirational President who is bringing passionate people back to our club

- And most importantly, our playing list is completely rejuvenated. We are always climbing our way up the ladder, w/o 7 first rounds picks (including 2 top 5 picks) not having played yet.

I feel like I finally have an answer to all my friends jibes at the mighty demons:

I just hope that we can sustain this positive momentum into the future! Can't wait for Stynesy, for all he's done to turn our club around, to witness out first premiership in 45 years in 2012!

I just hope that we can sustain this positive momentum post- Stynes, when he finnaly loses his inspirational battle with cancer. I hope Stynes can at least last till next season to see us consistently win,

Huh? That ain't going to beat Jimma. No how, no way.

Who said Stynes will lose his battle? I'm more a realist than an optimist, and of course I don't know precisely how severe it is, but I wouldn't put that cue back in the rack just yet. If Jimmy has faith in himself, then so do I.

Other than that, excellent post

Can we please not have such negative talk about Jimmy. Lets all be positive because if anyone is to beat this thing it will be Jimmy especially if he has us all thinking positively. The power of positive thinking.

Terrible wording.

Yep.

I think we can all agree that it's a great post except for that final paragraph, and the sentiment is right, but the wording is a horrible [censored] up.

Focusing on the main point of this thread - incouldnt agree more.

I was overseas when it finally dawned on me the hardships our club faced and I was confronted with the proposition of never watching the dees play AFL ever again as I knew them.

A harrowing thought at the time.

But these also are not the dees as I knew them.

Words don't suffice, but I couldn't be happier, more positive about our future or more committed to being a part of making that happen.

Go dees.

Mate....great post until the end there. My mum is going through the same battle as Jimma and he provides such inspiration for her as he does so many others.....I was really enjoying reading this until that final part, but I assume you did not mean it to come out as this, more a general sweeping comment. Hopefully my mum or Jim don't read this one!

Sorry for the negative wording guys, didn't mean it. Cancer that has spread to the brain can sometimes be a death sentence, but we're not talking about any normal person here. This is Jimmy Stynes.

I'm definitely hoping for a miracle and see him pull through! What an inspirational guy. (and, of course, I would send the same good wishes upon anyone struggling with any kind of illness or disease)

Didn't mean any offence.

Maybe this thread can go back to its original objective--- basking in the sun of MFC's accomplishments over the past 12 months.

It actually spoilt a great post for me, a suggestion that you go back and edit it......that way it is all positive.....even a positive comment about JS

DONE

What we need at the MFC is a Venue where all of us Mad Demon Supporters can celebrate our victories until the early hours of the following day! Food Drink Replays etc etc. This next decade is going to be ours.

If it is to be Leighoak or the Bentleigh club Fine, but the club needs to get the ball rolling

Coming home after a great G game by 7 PM is just not on. I want to celebrate with supporters. My dad tells me Legendary celebrations went on during the 50's & 60's when we were kings.

We should rekindle some of that to unite supporters & club even further.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
