Big Maxy Gawn

Recommended Posts

Guest DeesPower

Don't forget he can go forward and snag a few sausage rolls...

Maxy was a half time speaker in the redlegs a few weeks ago, and he happened to say that he thinks he has potential up forward especially seeing as he kicked 25 goals in 4 games!!!

I assume it was for his Sandringham junior side but hes clearly capable!

Hopefully he's modelling himself on Sandilands thats all I can say...

or even better on Salmon, or even better a combination of the two. I know some people played with/against Max when he was a junior and they all say he is incredibly mobile for his size, a great pack mark, and a long penetrating kick. One of them (ie one who was his opponent as a junior) said he was better many of the top 20 draft picks over the lastcouple of years and the only reason he could see for his not being drafted earlier was his knee problem.

If the club can get that right, I think we might have drafted the dominant forward/ruckman in the game in three or four years time. A great drafting chioce by the club in my opinion. This boy is going to be in the elite in a couple of years time

If Gawn had started the season fully fit it is unlikely he would have a game in the seniors this year. Big tall rucks take time to develop. How long is it since Jamar debuted, and he is only now really hitting his straps. With no play this year, he will spens 2011 at Casey. I would say 2012 is the first we will see of Gawn in the seniors. And I am really looking forward to it.

And Fitzpatrick has said he is a forward, and wants to play as a forward, and is not a ruck. I like the idea of a 200cm forward to go with Watts and Jurrah. Maybe 2011, but more like 2012. If he can manage his CFS.

So our ruck stocks for the present are Jamar (playing at his best since he pulled on the R&B), PJ (useful backup, but maybe not in the wet) and Spencer (young bloke still developing - only 7 games). Gawn and Meesen both out injured. Martin is a fillin assistant, not a ruckman.

Well stated

A few real positives tonight - T. Scully, J. Trengove, J. Grimes, J. mckenzie, C. Bartram all outstanding tonight

Not to be outdone though - had a chat with big Max at half time - reckons he's on track to start playing in 4 weeks. Hope for our sake this is correct. Can't wait to see the GIANT in action :-)

He has not played football for at least 12 months. He has done no pre season. He is young tall and not physically developed enough yet.

You wont see him at MFC this year. At earliest he will get a taste of the action in late 2011.

If he can work his way into Casey seniors that would be great.

This. I'd be very surprised (overjoyed, but surprised nonetheless) if he gets promoted from the Casey reserves even within 3-4 weeks of returning from the injury.

It's exciting but let's not get carried away. Schwab says the big fellas take about five years to develop. Take a look at how long it took them to get Jamar up to a high standard. Gawn should be good, but we will probably have to wait a few years.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
